<p>Ingredients: speculation, vagueness, uncertainty, traces of bet-hedging. Produced in a facility which handles peanuts. And certainly consumes them. </p> <p>[<i>In case you're wondering what the hell this is...</i> <i>Myself and Mrs. S are having a rare Saturday night out, and apparently, so are all the other SnakePit writers. Rather than leave you entirely stranded, we bring you a generic recap, featuring a best guess at things that may have happened in a game this season.</i> <i>With due acknowledgement to Azreous's infamous Mad Libs recap, though this one is more a function of necessity than artistic license!</i>]</p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.azsnakepit.com/" class="sbn-auto-link">Diamondbacks</a> faced the [<b>insert team</b>] at Chase Field tonight, before a crowd of <select> <option value="volvo">hundreds</option> <option value="saab">thousands</option> <option value="mercedes">rabid bobble-head collectors</option> <option value="audi">mostly visiting fans</option> </select>. Starter [<b>insert pitcher</b>] had been having his issues with the long-ball of late, and also been prone to the big inning. Tonight, <select> <option value="volvo">this proved the case yet again</option> <option value="saab">however, he avoided such issues</option> <option value="mercedes">he struggled early before settling in</option> <option value="audi">things went well until a sudden meltdown</option> </select>. He left the game and <select> <option value="volvo">got the win</option> <option value="saab">took the loss</option> <option value="mercedes">got a no-decision</option> <option value="audi">received a standing ovation</option></select>, before turning things over to the bullpen. The relievers took it the rest of the way, with <select> <option value="volvo">Brad Ziegler</option> <option value="saab">Daniel Hudson</option> <option value="mercedes">David Herenandez</option> </select> the pick of the bunch, though <select> <option value="volvo">Dominic Leone</option> <option value="saab">Josh Collmenter</option> <option value="mercedes">Oliver Perez</option> </select> continued to struggle, and you wonder whether a roster move might be in the offing, as the Diamondbacks look to shore up their taxed bullpen.</p>
<p>On offense, the Diamondbacks relied heavily, as ever on <span>Paul Goldschmidt</span>, who reached base <select> <option value="volvo">twice</option> <option value="saab">three times</option> <option value="mercedes">four times</option> <option value="audi">ALL THE TIMES</option> </select> and drove in his <select> <option value="volvo">74th</option> <option value="saab">thousands</option> <option value="mercedes">ten millionth</option> <option value="audi">ALL THE</option> </select> RBI with a <select> <option value="volvo">double</option> <option value="saab">triple</option> <option value="mercedes">home-run</option> <option value="audi">tooth-pick, just for laughs</option> </select>. He did get support from <select> <option value="volvo">A.J. Pollock</option> <option value="saab">Yasmany Tomas</option> <option value="mercedes">Jake Lamb</option> </select>, who had <select> <option value="volvo">a double</option> <option value="saab">a ham sandwich</option> <option value="mercedes">slept very well</option> <option value="audi">never wanted more</option></select>, but <span>Chris Owings</span> struck out <select> <option value="volvo">two</option> <option value="saab">three</option> <option value="mercedes">four</option> <option value="audi">ALL THE</option> </select> times, and <select> <option value="volvo">Yasmany Tomas</option> <option value="saab">Ender Inciarte</option> <option value="mercedes">Gerardo Parra - hey, why not? - </option></select> committed a TOOTBLAN. Nick Ahmed made some slick defensive plays, because that's what he does.</p>
<p>All told, this contest was <select> <option value="volvo">a joy to behold</option> <option value="saab">a dispiriting ordeal </option> <option value="mercedes">just one of 162</option> <option value="audi">what it was</option></select>, and Chip Hale certainly has plenty to think about tonight as he <select> <option value="volvo">celebrates this glorious victory</option> <option value="saab">sobs himself to sleep</option> <option value="mercedes">mops the sweat from his brow</option> <option value="audi">drinks heavily</option></select> . The same two teams meet again tomorrow at Chase Field and the Diamondbacks attempt to <select> <option value="volvo">sweep</option> <option value="saab">take the series</option> <option value="mercedes">avoid the sweep/option> </option> <option value="audi">juggle chainsaws</option> </select>. Join us, why don't you, for what is sure to be <select> <option value="volvo">an entertaining contest</option> <option value="saab">better than this one</option> <option value="mercedes">a baseball game</option> <option value="audi">a possible source of tacos</option> </select>.</p>

<p align="left">Assuming he was there, AzDbackfanInDc will be the most prolific commentor, and I don't even need to have a drop-down list for this. Failing that, or occupying the minor spots, probably some combination of GuruB and preston.salisbury. Maybe Dbacksskins, if he's around. Comment of the night? That'll go to asteroid, perhaps for something involving chocolate.</p>
<p align="left">We will be back tomorrow, with our regularly-scheduled recappage. For now, this is a virtual Jim wishing you good night, the real one already being far, far away from a keyboard!</p>

<p>The enigma which is Rubby takes the mound as we, once again, spin the Wheel O' De La Rosa, and see where about it lands. Last time out, it landed on the very small space reading "five walks, one run", as Rubby handed out free passes as if they were candy, yet still won his first game in a month, holding the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.fishstripes.com/">Marlins</a> to a single tally over seven innings of work. Naturally, it was a home-run: Rubby comes into today's game, fourth in the majors for home-runs allowed this season, with 22.</p>
<p>If the current rate keeps up, he will have the highest homer per nine innings figure of any qualifying Diamondback in team history. His number just edges Brian Anderson's from our debut season of 1998, when he led the league with 39 homers allowed, over 208 innings. And when I say "just", I mean <u>just</u> - as in identical until after the fifth decimal place. Anderson's rate was 1.687500, De La Rosa's 1.687505! But if you take into consideration the difference in eras, it's an easy win for Rubby. Anderson's figure represents 168.6% of league average that season; Rubby's is 183.2% of current NL home-run rate.</p>
<p>At least he'll have some more experience behind the plate, as Castillo makes his return to the line-up, having been out of it for the past three games, due to a tweaked hamstring - certainly not something you want as a catcher. Not that Hernandez seemed to do badly in terms of his pitch-calling, with the staff having an ERA of 3.00 and striking out 30 batters over those 27 innings. So far, he's been decent, I think. Small sample size, and obviously a work in progress, but I'm optimistic he'll be kept on the roster for the rest of the season, and become a permanent part of the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.azsnakepit.com/">Diamondbacks</a> going forward.</p>
