Jeremy Hellickson finally pitched 7 full innings, and the offense backed him up. Amazing what you accomplish when you look in your heart and believe.

Record: 38-41. Pace: 78-84. Change over 2014: +6.

Through 6 innings it seemed like this was going to be a tight game, with both starters putting the game on lock down. It wouldn't last forever, though, with the Diamondbacks exploding for 7 runs in the 6th and 7th innings to put the game well out of reach.

Before I describe the offensive onslaught, though, let's give it up for Jeremy Hellickson. Poor guy has been taking sass all year for having the nerve to be traded to the Diamondbacks, and then not being the second coming of Teddy Roosevelt. He was dealing tonight, though, going a full 7 innings (his first time this year!), giving up only 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 6. Jeremy spoke in class today, indeed.

Anyways, back to the offense. When AJ Pollock led off the 6th inning, the D-backs were down 1-0. He instantly changed that with a solo home run.

I was going to then describe in more detail how the other runs were scored, but I'm sure you have the ability to go look it up if you really need a full blow-by-blow. I think what's more important is that this game was like a nice palate cleanser after the Dodgers. Sure, the Rockies are barely a Major League team, but putting them on blast is always fun.

The last run was scored in the 8th when Nolan Arenado clanked a routine grounder like an idiot.

If I was better at this I'd give you a series of interesting factoids and figures that would be unique to this game. But instead here's a recipe for Soco's Beef Stroganoff:

Thinly sliced steak, browned in pan

1 large onion

3 cups of cooked egg noodles

1 large can of cream of mushroom soup

2 shots of vodka (1 for you, 1 for the sauce)

Splash of white wine (to ward off vampires)

Nearly full bottle of white wine (for you while you cook)

French's yellow mustard (to taste)

Green peas

The Rockies got clapt up tonight, y'all.

Through 6 innings it seemed like this was going to be a tight game, with both starters putting the game on lock down. It wouldn't last forever, though, with the Diamondbacks exploding for 7 runs in the 6th and 7th innings to put the game well out of reach.

Anyways, back to the offense. When AJ Pollock led off the 6th inning, the D-backs were down 1-0. He instantly changed that with a solo home run. Then a bunch of other guys did stuff and Arizona ended up with a 7-1 lead going into the 8th. Yay! The last run was scored in the 8th when Nolan Arenado clanked a routine grounder like an idiot.

This was a good way to start a new series. Let's keep the ball rolling, eh?

The Dodgers finally leave, and the far less irritating Colorado Rockies come to town. Well, I'm not sure they are are necessarily intrinsically less irritating, but the main reasons for Colorado-based irritation will be left in Denver. Specifically: Dinger, and rain delays. We will not, I trust, be seeing either interfering with this series, and I feel a great deal happier as a result of this. Hopefully, the Rockies will also do us the favor of continuing to suck, and we can blow past them in a four-game sweep, to reach the mythical kingdom of .500landia, so much the better. But I'm thinking we win the first three and then lose on Sunday, of course.

S'funny to think there was actually a point at which the Rockies thought they had a chance of winning the division. And not even "before Opening Day" like the Diamondbacks. No, they we're actually in sole possession of first place in the NL West, nine games into the season, having gone 7-2. But in a clinical demonstration by the baseball gods that nine games mean precisely shit, they then wouldn't win another series for more than a month. By the time they did, they were 8.5 games back and in fifth place, a position they have occupied for all bar three days since. However, they are three back of us, so in the apocalyptic event of a Rockies' sweep, we would be back in the basement.

I'm certainly hoping nothing like that happens, and anything less than a series victory will seem disappointing. Losing at home to the Dodgers was not great, but I guess dropping the rubber game by a single run and outscoring them 17-16 over the series is some indication things could have gone worse against the division leaders. No such excuses for the next four days, however: victory or bust.
