Chase Anderson was masterful once again, going 8 innings and frustrating Marlins hitters all game long in his first start of the season.

Chase Anderson's start to the 2015 season is what you'd call unlucky. Through his first 7 starts, his ERA is 2.81 and he's gone winless despite having 5 starts with less than 2 runs allowed. Tonight, he decided to take things into his own hands and make certain he was escaping Miami with a win.

Starting for the Marlins was David Phelps and the offense was keyed on him from the get-go. After an Ender Inciarte strike out to lead off, A.J. Pollock and Paul Goldschmidt hit back to back singles to bring up David Peralta with runners on the corners. Goldschmidt ran on the 2-2 pitch and Peralta grounded it to Michael Morse at 1st. With the speedy Pollock running on contact, Morse had one play and the Dbacks took an early 1-0 lead.

After a quick 12 pitch 1st from Anderson, Aaron Hill led off the 2nd with a walk, stole 2nd and moved to 3rd on a Tuffy Gosewisch ground out. Nick Ahmed, our much talked about shortstop, broke through with a double down the left field line to score Hill and give the Dbacks a 2-0 lead. Oh, but they weren't done there. Ahmed would steal 3rd and Chase Anderson helped his cause with a ground ball that deflected off the pitcher but just slow enough to score Ahmed from 3rd to give the Dbacks a 3-0 lead.

In the 5th, the Dbacks struck again in strange fashion. A.J Pollock led off with a walk, Goldschmidt grounded out to move A.J to 2nd, and Peralta would follow with a single to put runners on the corners with 1 out. But Peralta would be picked off at 1st and in the ensuing rundown, Pollock would steal home ahead of the throw and Peralta would take 2nd.

Meanwhile Chase Anderson was dealing. He only allowed a walk to Christian Yelich in the 2nd that was erased by a double play ball, a 5th inning single by Martin Prado and a 1-out double by Justin Bour in the 6th. With his whole arsenal working, for Chase it was only a matter of could it last.

He came out in the 9th already at his career high in innings pitched and his luck ran out. Justin Bour grounded to center just outside the reach of Aaron Hill. Dee Gordon followed that up by being hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd with 0 outs. After that, Marcel Ozuna hit a sharp grounder into the hole between short and 3rd to load the bases and chase Anderson from the game. Brad Ziegler came on against Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton and did Brad Ziegler things, getting his patented double play and fly ball to center to end the threat and game and give the Diamondbacks their second 3-game win streak of the season.

Lots of people out for the game thread today to watch a pretty good game for the Dbacks. The best comment was actually a tweet about history A.J Pollock made.

A quick and easy win for the Dbacks in Miami, as the pitching supported a solid all-around effort from the offense to fend off the Marlins in Miami.

Chase Anderson was brilliant, going into the 9th inning before loading the bases and being unable to get an out in that 9th inning. Brad Ziegler came on in relief and did Ziegler things, inducing Giancarlo Stanton to ground into a double play that scored a run before getting Martin Prado to line out to center for the 3rd out and give Anderson his first win of the season.

For the offense, it was A.J. Pollock leading the way with 3 hits and 4 runs, including a successful stolen base of home after David Peralta was picked off of first. He became the first player since Dee Gordon in 2011 to steal 2nd, 3rd and home in the same game. Other contributors on offense were David Peralta, with 2 hits and 3 RBI's, Nick Ahmed with 2 hits and Yasmany Tomas with his 5th consecutive game of 2 or more hits.

The Diamondbacks take the series after 3 straight wins over the Marlins and will go for the sweep tomorrow in the finale.

Slightly delayed preview, having just come back from a weekday matinee showing of 'Mad Max: Fury Road'. I don't always go to the cinema, but when I do, I prefer weekday matinee showings.

As with baseball, so it is at the movies. There's something to be said about experiencing it with a packed house, who are thoroughly into the event, but in terms of personal ease, there's a part of me that favors the stately splendor of a scant and sparse crowd. Parking? A breeze. Concessions? Walk up to whatever one you want. Seat? Pick one - an aisle seat being important consideration if you are attending with someone whose bladder appears to have an hourly alarm attached to it. And, of course, it doesn't really make any difference to your enjoyment of the event: it's the on-screen/field quality which matters.

After the pleasant surprise which was a win in a Jeremy Hellickson start yesterday, we now try and extend the winning streak to three, and perhaps even get Chase Anderson his first victory since our rotation included Trevor Cahill and Wade Miley (a distant time natives refer to as "the dreaming"). So far, our pitching staff have largely done a very solid job of keeping Stanton and the Marlins' other hitters in checks, with just four runs allowed in 22 innings of work, all of those coming on a couple of swings of the bat. They've needed to be solid, because our offense has continued to sputter on this road-trip, with a .610 OPS and averaging three runs per game, with a K:BB ratio of 36:7.

Pollock is rewarded for his pinch-hit success last night, getting a start in center, with Mark Trumbo being the odd outfielder out this afternoon. Chris Owings also gets a rest, as we go with a middle infield of Ahmed and Hill instead. I have to say, that bunt RBI single by Ahmed yesterday was one of the loveliest plays I've seen by a D-backs hitter all season, leaving the defense with absolutely no play. The ability to mix things up like that is great: Arizona no leads the National League in bunt hits (7), and is third for infield hits (49). The Marlins lead the latter category on 53, no real surprise, considering Dee Gordon has 16, the only NL batter in double figures.
