Results elsewhere robbed the game of any importance, and the St. Louis line-up of many regulars. But Josh Collmenter finished the season strong, in a game which both sides seemed intent on finishing as quickly as possible.

For a guy who started the season in the bullpen, Josh Collmenter sure did finish the season strongly. He threw eight innings of one-run ball, on three hits and no walks, with three strikeouts. It was his seventh straight start throwing at least six innings, and allowing two runs or less, with an ERA of 1.26 over that time, and augurs well for him in 2015. It certainly deserved a much better fate than a loss, and as he had thrown only 88 pitches through eight innings, if we hadn't needed to score, could well have been in line for the complete game. Instead, Evan Marshall got to throw the last pitches of the season for Arizona, with a scoreless ninth.

Unfortunately, our offense was even more of a hurry to make tee reservations than the Cardinals, mustering only two hits all afternoon, both off the bat of Cliff Pennington. He was stranded on third in the third inning, and the only other at-bat with runners in scoring position came in the bottom of the sixth, when David Peralta hit into a double-play after walks to Collmenter and A.J. Pollock. The side went down in order in the ninth, Peralta flying out to left-field, and draw a line under 2014 for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The loss ends our season with a record of 64-98, the second-worst in franchise history. There will likely be a lot of changes over the course of the winter. We'll be here for you. :)

What are the storylines for the final day of the regular season? Here's your handy, cut out and keep guide to all that matters in the six divisions today, along with who is playing where.

AL East. Baltimore wins.

AL Central. Detroit (vs. Twins, 10:08am) are one up on Kansas City (@ Chicago, 11:10am). Both have qualified for the post-season, but a win for the Royals and loss for Detroit would lead to a one-game playoff on Monday in Detroit to determine the champion, with the loser getting the first AL wild-card and the winner taking on Baltimore in the ALDS.

AL West. Anaheim wins. Oakland (@ Texas, 12:05pm) are one up on Seattle (vs. Anaheim, 1:10pm). There's only one spot available here, so a win for the Mariners and a loss for the A's, would create a one-game playoff on Monday in Seattle, to determine the second AL wild-card.

NL East. Washington wins.

NL Central. It's a mirror of the AL Central, with St. Louis (@ Arizona, 1:10pm) one up over Pittsburgh (@ Reds, 10:10am), with both already qualified and only the title/wild-card to be decided. A Pirates win and Cardinals loss would lead to a one-game playoff on Monday in St. Louis, with the loser facing the Giants in the wild-card, and the winner taking on the Dodgers in the NLDS.

NL West. Los Angeles wins. San Francisco qualifies as a wild-card.

It's nice to be involved in the excitement, even if it's more of a "spear carrier #2" role, rather than as one of the main players. As someone who doesn't have to work tomorrow, I'm basically rooting for as much free baseball as possible, so three "win or die" playoff games before we even reach the wild-card, would seem to fully occupy the couch for the day. But the D-backs will have to get past Cardinals ace Wainwright to make that a reality, though we do have our best starting pitcher this year taking the mound too, in the shape of Collmenter. It should be a fun day, I think, so pop some popcorn and put up your feet for the final Diamondbacks game of the year.
