Welcome to the 20th issue of Dbacks 2013. Will Matt Cain go berserk and ruin our lives or will Goldschmidt emerge from the sea and hit 3 HRs? Find out in the latest issue of Dbacks 2013

The game starts out pretty well for the Dbacks as Brandon Crawford makes a throwing error and Gerardo Parra arrives at first safely. I don't what it is, but Brandon Crawford just can't field worth a lick when he plays against us. The game continues on as Martin Prado hits a single to right field. Goldschmidt comes up to bat and hits a double that scores Parra. Miguel Monetero grounds out to short but manages to move all the runners over and Martin Prado scores. Cody Ross and Eric Chaves make a quick couple of outs. The game gets quiet until the 3rd as Parra strikes out swinging to begin the inning and Prado walks. Then Goldy saunters to the plate and as usual sees a man dressed in Orange and Black and thinks to himself, "I must destroy this man" and hits a 3-1 pitch all the way to Pyongyang for a 2 Run homerun. Montero and Ross make two quick outs and our half of the inning is over. The game quiets down once again until the bottom of the 8th. Andres "I have a movie" Torres leads off the bottom half of the 8th with a single. Brandon Crawford continues to play way over his head and hits a triple to center field. Hector Sanchez grounds out to third but Crawford manages to score to make it 4-2, still in favor of the Dbacks. Angel Pagan hits a single and David Hernandez comes in to relieve a tired Patrick Corbin who up until this point was embarrassing The Giants. Hernandez induces a quick fly out from Scutaro, but then gives up a single to Pablo Sandoval to put runners on the corner. However this threat ends when Buster Posey pops out softly to second base. The Dbacks go down 1-2-3 in the top of the 9th which brings J.J. Putz in to get the save in the bottom of the ninth. The Giants thought differently as Hunter Pence leads of with a double and Brandon Belt hits a 2 run home run to tie the game at the very last second. Putz manages to settle down and gets 3 outs to end the inning. Not much happens in the tenth inning but the eleventh is plenty of fun as Didi Gregorious hits a 1 out double and Alfredo Marte reaches base on a missed catch error by Brandon Belt. Gregorious comes into score the go ahead run when Santiago Castilla throws a wild pitch. Parra then doubles which scores Marte and gives us an insurance run. Parra then decides to channel Willy Bloomquist and gets thrown out on a bad attempt at stealing 3rd. Prado pops up to end the top of the 11th. Matt Reynolds comes in for the save and gives up a single to Belt but induces a double play in the next at bat. Reynolds gets Crawford to ground out to second base to end the game.

This one should be filed as "needlessly interesting". This time, Arizona blew a 4-0 lead in the last two innings, with J.J. Putz giving up a two-run homer in the ninth to tie it. However, some hustle in the 11th from Didi Gregorius helped bail out the D-backs, who are now 4-0 in extra inning games.

Patrick Corbin was totally dominant in the first seven innings: economical, hitting his spots and getting a lot of quick outs. Meanwhile, as last night, the Diamondbacks scored two in the first, and when Paul Goldschmidt hammered his fourth home-run (SnakeLines count: 4) of the season in the third inning off Matt Cain, the two-run shot made it 4-0. The score stayed that way until the eighth, when the Giants finally got to Corbin for two runs, but it was still a great outing: 7.1 IP, six hits, no walks and seven strikeouts. However, J.J. Putz couldn't close things out, mislocating a slider which was deposited into the bleachers for the second late, game-tying, two-run homer in consecutive nights.

This had the horrible feeling that it was going to be deja vu all over again. and the Giants got a walk and two hits in the 10th off Brad Ziegler. However, the Obese Raccoon was sent home and was out by a margin wider than his pant-size. Didi Gregorius got a hustle one-out double, taking second as the Giants outfielders stood around, advanced on a ground-ball and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Gerardo Parra followed with an RBI double, and Matt Reynolds worked around a lead-off single, with the help of a double-play, for the save.

There's a day game tomorrow at AT&T Park, with Ian Kennedy taking on Madison Bumgarner. A win would salvage a 4-5 road-trip, which wouldn't be too bad. BattleMoses will be along in a bit with the full recap.

Yeah. it sucks to be walked off. But that's the first time this year, we were leading after seven innings and didn't win. It's gonna happen. Let's just hope it's not often.

Even after last night, the Diamondbacks' bullpen still has the third-best ERA in the National League: at 2.47, it trails only the Braves and Pirates. Now, there is some cause for concern, in that the team's performance when pitching in late and close situations has been a bit wobbly: .276/.343/.421 for a .764 OPS, which is 47 points worse than league average. But the concept of "clutch pitching" seems likely to be as difficult to pin down as the rainbow unicorn which is clutch hitting, so I think that'll likely head down, in part because our BABIP there is .346, more than fifty points above the mean.

As for tonight we go up against Cain, who has been far from able thus far.. Actually, that's an exaggeration, but I'm refusing to let facts get in the way of a good pun. He has alternated awful outings with quality starts: and when I say "awful," I mean 16 earned runs in less than ten innings terrible. The bad news is, if that keeps up, we'll be in for one of the other kind, which have resulted in just two earned runs over 13 innings. He certainly did well against Arizona last season: in his four starts, he went 3-0 with a 2.62 ERA. No shortage of experience here: both Montero and Parra have more than 40 PAs against Cain, though the .235 average doesn't suggest it has helped much.

Corbin faced the Giants four times last year, but the results there were rather mixed: his two starts at Chase were pretty good, but the ones in AT&T Park were a good deal less successful, resulting in ten runs over a mere eight innings, on 14 hits. No question about Corbin's control - he has walked exactly one San Francisco batter in 23 innings against them. But the hits have come rather too easily. That was 2012 Corbin, however, and the 2013 version seems to have taken a big step forward, going by his first three outings of the year: and he has posted a better Game Score each time out, so the improvement seems ongoing.

The offense still seems to need a kick-start, with half of tonight's starting line-up having an OPS+ of 81 or lower. The biggest disappointments so far have been Montero and Prado, I think: if those two can get going, we should be in a much better place, especially once we get Hill back. The outfield, I'm less concerned about: Pollock has hit well above expectations, and Parra has been holding his own more than adequately too. Tacos tonight? That may well depend on which Cain shows up, but I would certainly like to see them.
