The D-backs spurned a number of chances, but did just enough to end their three-game losing streak.

The D-backs scored twice in the third inning to take the lead. Chris Iannetta clubbed his first home-run of the season, and Jake Lamb drew a bases-loaded walk with one out to make it 2-0. However, Arizona couldn’t take further advantage, despite the early exit of the Dodgers’ starter, for a second straight game, and squandered opportunities to score in the second and sixth. Paul Goldschmidt added an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI single. He, Chris Owings and Yasmany Tomas each had two hits, with Lamb picking up a pair of walks.

Fortunately, Taijuan Walker and Archie Bradley were getting it done. Walker allowed one run over five innings - he allowed four hits and a walk, striking out seven. Bradley followed with 2.2 scoreless frames, and Jorge De La Rosa retired Adrian Gonzalez representing the tying run at the plate in the eighth. That brought in Fernando Rodney for the ninth, after getting incinerated by Los Angeles yesterday. Fortunately, rather than a homer off the bat off the Puig, it was a game-ending double-play. Arizona goes into tomorrow’s finale, still with a chance to split the four-game series.

After being outscored 15-5 over the first two games, we'll be hoping for better from Taijuan Walker and the D-backs in the third game of four at Dodger Stadium.

Interesting that, despite driving in all four Arizona runs yesterday, and with a left-hander on the mound for the Dodgers this afternoon, Torey Lovullo has sent Nick Ahmed back to the bench. The Diamondbacks will be hoping for much better today from Peralta and Drury than we've seen on this road-trip: they're batting .133 and .105 respectively, with ugly OPS's of .310 and .263. They're not along: Goldschmidt is at .403 and Pollock .316, so that's basically half of today's line-up not hitting their weight away from Chase Field. PG is, at least, still getting on base, with more hits than walks on this road-trip.

Hill returns to the rotation for Los Angeles, having missed a slot because of a blister - it's an example of how the new 10-day disabled list can work out for a team, with them being able to pull up a replacement pitcher if a starter has to be skipped. The Diamondbacks saw him once in 2016 - more than nine years after his previous start against Arizona! - and handled Hill pretty well, tagging him with the loss and four earned runs over 5.1 innings. Mind you, we did better than that against Maeda yesterday, and it didn't exactly help much. Given his flaky finger, the D-backs might be looking to drive up that pitch count early. So take a few pitches, dammit!
