What is this blaspheny? An 11 am start on a FRIDAY? Yeah, this part of the preview will be a little terser than usual, for a variety of reasons. I did actually get up a bit earlier than normal this morning. But that was because an electrician was coming over to do some work at SnakePit Towers. The anti-personnel devices kept going off at random, and the resulting missile launches were causing the neighbors concern... We then got distracted by watching the Olympics opening ceremony which we’d recorded overnight. And, truth be told, I completely forgot it was a day game. Ah, the quirks of the Wrigley Field district, limiting the numbers of night games allowed to be played.

Fortunately, Jack didn’t forget, so there is some actual content for you to look at this morning!

Torey Lovullo notes

  • Josh Rojas is still being evaluated. All imaging is done, and they are working with doctors to try to figure out next steps. Torey could not say if surgery was being considered, but he did not seem to think it was. Josh is not with the team, and unless they make a roster move coming up shortly that they couldn’t reveal due to health and safety protocols they will be playing shorthanded today.
  • Andrew Young was the first name off Torey’s lips as potential backup SS to Nick Ahmed, and secondary to that he mentioned Eduardo Escobar. Young took grounders at shortstop during batting practice today.
  • Carson Kelly and Asdrubal Cabrera both played last night in rehab games in the Arizona Complex League last night. (Not sure how they got those games in with the weather, but they did) It was Kelly’s first game and Asdrubal’s 3rd straight. All seemed to go well physically.
