This probably wasn’t the way how Alex Young envisioned his MLB debut would come about. Drafted in the 2nd round after his junior year of college out of TCU, Young profiled as an advanced lefty starter who could speed his way through the minors and spend a long career as a starter in the back of the rotation. It seemed like that was the case early, posting outstanding ERA numbers early on and seeing a promotion to AA in 2017, going 9-9 with an ERA at 3.68. Last season saw Young reach AAA, but like most pitchers do in Reno, he struggled with an ERA over 5. He’s repeated the level this season with even worse results but with the team needing a 5th starter, he’ll get the call. Who knows, maybe escaping that death trap will reignite the Alex Young of old.
The Giants send Tyler Beede to the mound who has been absolutely dreadful in his first extended action with the big league club. He strikes a lot of guys out, walks almost as many, and gives up a ton of runs. Sounds like the perfect description of the 2019 Giants. Of course, he’ll probably stymie this team over 7 innings.
