Afraid there isn’t time for a proper preview here, so I’ll just mention a couple of things. Another round of Reno Bus Bingo took place, with the news that catcher Alex Avila is indeed on the DL with a strained left calf. He has been replaced on the roster by Caleb Joseph, though I expect we will probably see Carson Kelly get a bit more of the starts than was previously the case.
This evening’s pitching match-up promised to be a good one, featuring former D-back fireballer Max Scherzer against current D-back fireballer, Robbie Ray. I’ll just leave here, this very interesting comparison from Jack between the two pitchers to the same points of their career:
The below comparison is Robbie Ray vs Max Scherzer at exactly same points in their careers, which is June of their age 27 season, first 690+ IP

In early part of Max's career people lamented his short outings an inability to get deep in games while running big pitch counts pic.twitter.com/JMGDijKcgP
Important add on

The 2nd half of 2012 Scherzer went 8-2, 2.69 ERA, then in 2013 he became Mad Max Scherzer, 21-3, 2.74 ERA enroute to Cy Young
The time for Ray to take next step to elite, if he wants to keep pace with Scherzer…..is RIGHT NOW….EXACTLY RIGHT NOW—-THIS NEXT START
It would be really nice if Ray followed suit, turning in a Cy Young-worthy performance over the rest of this season. We’ve seen flashes in the past, with good weeks and even good months. But putting together outings of that quality for the remainder of 2019 would be a huge boost to this team’s post-season chances.
