Reno Aces 9, Chicago Cubs 0

That did the trick. Torey Lovullo was fielding the wrong team all along.

MLB: Chicago Cubs at Arizona Diamondbacks Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

Last night the joke was that Torey Lovullo was waving the white flag before the game began by giving the start to Matt Andriese. He got rocked early, so you wouldn’t be blamed if you assumed the same for today’s game after the starting lineup was announced. Absent were the like of Paul Goldschmidt, David Peralta, A.J. Pollock, and Eduardo Escobar. Patrick Kivlehan, Ildemaro Vargas, and Christian Walker took their spots and had a total of 4 MLB starts on the season between them entering the game. It mattered not as they pounced all over Cole Hammels and the Chicago Cubs en route to a 9-0 victory.

Robbie Ray was equally as spectacular, allowing only 1 hit and 4 walks over 6 innings while striking out 8. It’s perhaps a case of a little too late, but damn it feels good to recap a victory.

Full recount of the events to follow.
