MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks at Chicago Cubs Matt Marton-USA TODAY Sports

Clay Buchholz made his return from the disabled list tonight, and he was able to continue the stellar pitching we saw from Zach Greinke and Patrick Corbin the past couple of games. He set the tone for the game immediately, sitting down the side in the first inning on only six pitches. He didn’t keep up that pace the entire game, but he didn’t give up a hit until fourth inning, and the only run he allowed was a solo home run in the sixth inning.

He left in the bottom of the seventh with two on and two outs. Chafin replaced him and walked the only batter he faced to load the bases. Bradley came in and ended the seventh without any runs given up, and then sat down the side in order in the eighth. Boxberger pitched a clean ninth and got the save

On the flip side, the offense had a couple wasted opportunities. They put together a couple of baserunners with two out in the bottom of the first, and they loaded the bases in the third, but no runs came from either situation. They put up a three spot in the fifth and added solo tallies in the sixth and ninths, and with the quality of pitching they had tonight, it was enough. Full recap to follow shortly!
