Zac Gallen ranked third on MLB Now’s Top 10 Starting Pitchers

It's his first time on the list

Arizona's Zac Gallen ranked third on MLB Now’s Top 10 Starting Pitchers Right Now last night. The 2023 All-Star, who makes his debut on the ranking, finished one spot ahead of Justin Verlander of the Houston Astros and one spot behind Corbin Burnes of the Milwaukee Brewers.

On last night’s countdown, former pitcher and MLB Network analyst Ron Darling said, “Gallen’s got a load of talent, he’s got many weapons to get hitters out, and I think a leader in the clubhouse after his first 16 starts for the Cy Young, was Zac Gallen. His last 13 or 14, not as good. …He’s one of the more impressive pitchers for a guy that’s been traded twice.”

The complete ranking for MLB Now’s top-10 starting pitchers is:

  1. Gerrit Cole, New York Yankees
  2. Corbin Burnes, Milwaukee Brewers
  3. Zac Gallen, Arizona Diamondbacks
  4. Justin Verlander, Houston Astros
  5. Blake Snell, Free Agent
  6. Zack Wheeler, Philadelphia Phillies
  7. Spencer Strider, Atlanta Braves
  8. Logan Webb, San Francisco Giants
  9. Max Fried, Atlanta Braves
  10. Sonny Gray, St. Louis Cardinals

Each Top 10 Right Now ranking considers player performance over the last three seasons, offensive and defensive metrics, both advanced Statcast data and traditional numbers, and expert analysis by the MLB Network research team. The offseason rankings will continue tonight as Brian Kenny and former All-Star catcher Alex Avila count down MLB Now’s Top 10 Catchers Right Now at 5 p.m. Arizona time. I'd certainly not be surprised if we have another piece like this tomorrow, honoring Gabriel Moreno.
