Shorter Season, Expanded Playoffs

I missed watching less than 10 games of Dback baseball this year. I love it, but it's too long of a season for everyone (fans, family of fans and players ). The reality is that a big chunk of the fanbase pays little attention during the regular season until/if their team makes the playoffs. The MLB taking measures to reduce the average time of game was big and great for the game.

The next step is to reduce the regular season games and increase the amount of teams that get into the playoffs (similar to NBA). I propose a 100 game season with 8 teams from each league making the playoffs and a 7 game format in each series. How much more exciting would it be for everyone to see more teams in the playoffs with a chance to win it?
