Up in the pines today and prepping juicy steaks with my brother and my father as the game gets going.
Friday night is for the boys!
Inning 1: Let’s Go!
MadBum up tonight wearing the throwback unis in honor of the 20yrs since we got our first WS win. Quite a different team today….
MadBum starts out rocky with the first two Mariners reaching on singles.
Luckily that’s all the damage Bum allows……..except for plinking Toro to load the bases, which leads to MadBum walking the next Mariner leading to our first deficit: 0-1 Mariners.
1-2-3 go the Dbacks in our half of the 1st. Still got a ways to go, and thankfully the steaks just got off the grill
Inning 2: Cigars and steaks!!!
MadBum redeems himself in the 2nd with a relatively chill inning as the Mariners also go 1-2-3. I’ll take it.
Another 1-2-3 Dbacks frame, which is something I can do without…
Still 0-1 going in to the 3rd
Inning 3: Rummy Cube and manly banter!
MadBum gives up a single and a walk in the 3rd, but despite being mostly meh so far he’s not allowed the bleeding to overcome the game.
Dad’s broken out the rummy cube (a game of sorts) and cigars, so my coverage may falter. Bare with me.
Not that I’m missing to much as we contribute to the enduring no hitter as we go 1-2-3 yet again.
Inning 4: More Cigars and Elk Calls
MadBum with one bad inning proceeds to stack bodies the next 3. I’d be cool with that, if only our bats could show up.
Winning in Rummy Cube, but losing in the recap. Still 0-1 going in to the bottom of the 4th.
No hitter gets broken up by a Ahmed triple to deep center, followed soon after by a Carson Kelly single to tie things up!!!
Walker draws a base on balls but a Rojas pop up ends things but at least now we got a whole new game with a 1-1 tie.
Inning 5: Father telling stories and my brother and I mostly listening
Good feelings evaporated faster than my Rummy Cube lead with MadBum giving up two solo shots in the 5th and that deficit is right back with us. Yay . 1-3 Mariners
Offensive whimpers continue in the 5th for us, though on the bright side I was allowed by my father to use a WILDLY expensive bourbon to make an old fashioned. Though the Dbacks are not winners I now feel like one. 1-3 going in to the 6th.
Inning 6: Sports talk and more sports talk…..not about the Dbacks
MadBum with a walk to lead off the 6th followed swiftly after by his third allowed homer of the night to quickly vanquish my home. Thank God for dad’s good bourbon. 1-5 Mariners
Still 1-2-3 for the Dbacks in the 6th and I’m becoming very bullish about this game finishing before I’m even half way through my cigar.
Inning 7: cigars and fine spirits make for a perfect dude’s night out
Peacock relieves MadBum and proceeds to unend the Mariners. Nice, but feels like it’s too late.
Walker leads things off for us with a double and the young Young drives him in right after with a ground rule double to make it 2-5.
Rojas adds to the excitement with a single to drive in Young and bring that deficit down to two.
Ahmed ties it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The pitching change sealed the Mariners fate and we now have a game once more. 5-5 folks!
Inning 8: Now my brother tries to murder a skunk with a bb gun
We could have tacked on more in the 7th, but I’ll not turn down a good inning like that.
Oh no. Mantiply is in. The mantiplication tables have been brought in to play……but he succeeds!
No dice for us in the 8th, but we still got a chance…..
Inning 9: Listening to Frank Sinatra now; my father’s fave
No action for the Mariners in the 9th and now, as I’m almost done with my cigar, it’s up to the Dbacks.
….nope. No dice. Ugghhhh
Inning 10: I’m old and calling it a night
No doubt this game is over in the 10th as the Mariners bring over their 6th run. Calling it folks. Night.
Bells and whistles, by Jim
And Patrick was correct to do so, as Nick Ahmed finishes the bottom of the tenth as he began it - standing, forlorn, on second base. The D-backs failed to get their man home, unlike the Mariners, and so lost in ten innings.

Same two teams tomorrow. At the time of writing, we still don’t know who the starting pitcher will be for either side. Welcome to September baseball, folks... 5:10 pm first pitch at Chase.
