Diamondbacks News
Arizona 3, Houston 4
Madison Bumgarner allowed only one hit through seven innings of work. Unfortunately for Bumgarner and the Diamondbacks, that one hit left the yard after a walk, giving the Astros the lead. The Diamondbacks clawed back to tie the game in the eighth and then took a one -run lead in the tenth, but the bullpen was unable to contain the Astros in the bottom of the tenth. Wasted opportunities by the offense cost this team as much as Tyler Clippard and the Manfred Mann did.
Bullpen, Offense Squander Bumgarner Gem
If only the offense had gotten a timely hit or Tyler Clippard could have shut down the Astros in the tenth, the Diamondbacks could have pushed back their 100th loss of the season at least one more day. Instead, the Diamondbacks reached the century mark in losses for the second time in franchise history.
Madison Bumgarner Carries No-Hitter Into Sixth
It’s the sort of luck the Diamondbacks have had all season. Madison Bumgarner did not give up his first hit until the sixth inning. Alas, the hit came on the heels of one of the three walks he allowed in the game and left the yard, resulting in the Diamondbacks falling behind. The Snakes battled back, but the offense just could not get going and eventually that cost them when Tyler Clippard was unable to pitch a shutdown inning in the Manfred Mann tenth.
