Diamondbacks News

[Arizona Sports] D-backs’ Kelly nearly goes the distance in 6-4 win over the Cubs

“I just think today our game plan matched up with their aggressiveness and execution.”

“Following the game plan, he and Daulton [Varsho] did a terrific job of setting up hitters and finishing off hitters.”

“We had a good game plan, and we were very patient”.

“I knew he was going to be able to game plan and execute”.

[] Kelly dominates for 8 plus

“It’s a belief in the game plan, it’s conviction with his pitches and then trusting the guys around him”.

[AZ Central] Diamondbacks avoid sweep, beat Cubs behind strong Merrill Kelly outing (no game plan quotes)

“That would have been my first complete game,” [Merrill] Kelly said. “I definitely wanted to finish it if at all possible. But I definitely thought it was the right move (to take me out) at the time.”

[AZ Central] For Kole Calhoun, defense overshadows baserunning mishap in Diamondbacks win

Both AZ Central and Arizona Sports made an article on Kole Calhoun’s defence in the win over the Cubs. I guess that if a team is that horrible anything that shows some kind of beauty gets overemphasized by too many people or writers.

[NBC Sports Chicago] Walks catch up to Cubs in loss to D-Backs

10 Chicagoan take-aways.

[] D-backs agree to terms with Bliss, 4 others

The D-backs have agreed to terms with five of their selections from last week’s MLB Draft, including second-round pick Auburn shortstop Ryan Bliss.

The other players who agreed to terms include catcher Caleb Roberts (fifth round), right-hander Luke Albright (sixth round), left-hander Jake Rice (ninth round) and right-hander Ross Carver (20th round).

Bliss has gone underslot, reportedly saving some 500k on his signing.

Around The MLB

[CBS Sports] Starling Marte likely to be traded after rejecting extension

Logically Marte rejected a $10MM AAV contract for 3 years and now he has to go. Curious to see if the Marlins get something bigger than we did. Should not. Hope not.

[NBC Sports Chicago]: Chafin returns to Arizona: ‘Whole different perspective’

Chafin is having a good year for the Cubs and could be dealt before the trade deadline. The Cubs would probably pick up more than we did when the D-Backs shipped the southpaw off to Chicago.

Across The Atlantic

[Europe] Parma wins European baseball cup

The Italians won the Champions League equivalent of baseball this weekend after beating a surprising Bonn Capitals from Germany in the final. In what was otherwise a tournament with very bad pitching, leading to crazy high scores, the Italian team won the cup for the first time since 1999 and is record holder with 14 in total.

Across The Pacific

[Olympics] Dominican Republic, Mexico make Olympic baseball rosters official

The Diamondbacks gave minor leaguers Luis Castillo (AA) and Junior García (AAA) permission to represent their country Dominican Republic at the Tokyo Olympics. The Mexico roster has two former D-Backs in veteran pitchers Oliver Perez and Fernando Salas.
