Boxberger pitched around Carson Kelly’s infield hit leading off the ninth for his second save in as many chances.
When Boxberger closes you out, you know you are in deep trouble.

[AZ Central] Defense in center field has slipped for Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte
“It’s not necessarily closing in on the ball or moving full speed, it’s the first moves to the baseball, the angles to the baseball,” Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said. “Those are things we feel he could do a little better job with.”

[LA Times] MLB cracks down on illegal substances, Trevor Bauer’s spin rate drops, Dodgers lose ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Bauer’s fastball’s spin rate reached new heights over his first 12 starts, averaging of 2,835 rpm, per Baseball Savant. That changed Sunday. His four-seam fastball’s spin rate maxed out at 2,762 rpm, not even reaching his previous average.

[MLB Trade Rumors] Giants designate Scott Kazmir
If the Giants cannot make this a fairy tale, no one can. Kazmir made a comeback to the majors after almost 5 years and was especially hurt by the long ball, giving up 3 homers in 7 innings. With a 6.43 ERA...he might be an option for our rotation?
[MLB Trade Rumors] Injury updates
Our cellar rivals the Colorado Rockies placed one of their bigger trade chips Jon Gray on the 10-day IL with a right flexor strain. The Giants got a not so happy message with the news of Evan Longoria being out 4-6 weeks with a shoulder injury. The Padres don’t expect Pomeranz and Nola to be back before the end of the month, while Grisham might return in a week to the lineup. Good news for us in Baltimore: ace John Means hits the IL with shoulder problems, so the Orioles are back in the game for a race to the bottom.

[WBSC] USA Baseball captures Olympic berth
The USA went unbeaten in this Olympic Qualifiers as they grabbed a ticket for the Tokyo Olympics. Sure, this team will have a hard time beating off Japan and South Korea who will field players from their KBO and NPB leagues, but it is still good to see the country that invented baseball, to participate in a baseball Olympics. The USA beat Nicaragua (7-1) and got what proved to be a decisive win over the Dominican Republic (8-6) in the group stage. The match against Puerto Rico was rained out while up 6-1 in the 4th inning and deemed not relevant by the tournament. In the Super round the USA then beat Canada (10-1) and finally Venezuela (4-2) to clinch first place by a team that did not see any extraordinary performances from their players, but was the best balanced team present. USA joins Japan, South Korea, Israel and Mexico as the teams that have qualified for this summer’s Olympics.
Dominican Republic and Venezuela get a second chance in two weeks in Puebla, Mexico, where they will meet The Netherlands and Australia and battle for a final ticket. That tournament will host only four nations after China withdrew a couple of weeks ago and now Taiwan announced it will do the same due to their national COVID-related problems.
