Confidence? What confidence? Excitement? What excitement?

Yeah, it’s been rough. But we do still have some exciting players. Kinda.

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across MLB. Each week, we send out questions to the most plugged-in Arizona Diamondbacks fans, and fans across the country. Sign up here to join Reacts.

According to the most recent SB Nation Reacts survey, a massive six percent of Diamondbacks fans are confident the team is headed in the right direction. I’ll have what they’re having. But, hey! That’s actually up from a feeble four percent last week - though for obvious reasons, it’s also down from 32 percent two weeks ago. Here’s how the graph has looked this season. This is my unsurprised face.

While the year has been tough for Arizona fans, there is no shortage of stars elsewhere around the league this season. According to fans around the country, Los Angeles Angelsdesignated hitter pitcher superstar Shohei Ohtani is the most exciting player in the league. The two-way star earned 44 percent of the vote, beating out Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. who took 27 percent.

Ohtani has become the first successful two-way player in roughly 100 years of the game. However, fans aren’t convinced it’s something he can do for an entire career.

When forced to pick which of Ohtani’s skills will last him the longest, a strong majority of fans believe he will be able to hit at a major league level longer than his pitching will hold strong.

Ohtani would almost certainly be the biggest star on almost any other team in the league. However, he still hasn’t quite claimed that title on the Angels – but for good reason. Ohtani’s star is still out-shined by outfielder Mike Trout, according to nearly two-thirds of fans.

In terms of the Diamondbacks, it’s interesting to think about who is the team’s most exciting player might be. Unfortunately, injury has certainly taken its toll on the roster, but there are a few suggestions on the poll below. Who do you reckon? [The absence of pitchers is quite deliberate. There is not a single pitcher on the active roster whom I would call “exciting”. At least, not in a positive sense. Most of the relievers are rather exciting when it comes to relying on them to protect a lead. But it’s the kind of excitement I think we could well do without...
