Reno Aces 6 Sacramento River Cats 5
Tyler Gilbert went 5 1⁄3 innings, and allowed two runs on three hits and two walks, while striking out four. Gilbert actually cruised through the first five innings of the game, and didn’t allow any runs until he gave up a two run home run. Chester Pimentel relieved Gilbert in sixth, and had a solid outing. Pimentel went 1 2⁄3 scoreless (and hitless) innings, walked just a batter, while striking out a pair. Junior Garcia took over for Pimentel in the eighth inning, and had a not so great out outing, In an inning of work, Garcia allowed one run on three hits, though he didn’t walk any batters, and struck out one, Miguel Aguilar nearly blew the save in the ninth; Aguilar allowed two runs (one unearned run thanks to a throwing error by 2B Christian Lopes) on four hits, while striking out a pair.
Kole Calhoun went 2-3 with two home runs, and got the Aces on the scoreboard with a two run home run in the top of the first. Kole Calhoun, Ildemaro Vargas, and Drew Ellis would hit back-to-back-to-back solo homeruns to lead off the top of the sixth inning. An out later, Juniel Querecuto singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Ben DeLuzio single.
Drew Ellis went 2-4 with a double and a solo home run. Ildemaro Vargas was 1-4 with a solo home run and a walk. Jake McCarthy was 1-4 with a walk. Bryan Holaday was 1-4 with a double. Juniel Querecuto and Ben DeLuzio both went 1-4, with the latter scoring a run, and the former knocking in a run.
Seth Beer didn’t start, but pinch hit for Junior Garcia, and drew a walk in his plate appearance.
