Corbin Martin was chased from the game in the first inning. The game went downhill from there. Fernando Tatis, Jr ended the night with a three homer night, putting on quite the show for the home crowd.

Martin Fails to Escape First Inning

Tommy Pham and Fernando Tatis, Jr opened the game against Corbin Martin with back-to-back home runs. Martin never recovered from that. Four of the next five batters reached base. The one who didn’t recorded a sacrifice fly. Seven batters in, Martin had recorded only one out and given up four earned runs.

Diamondbacks Woes with RISP Continues

Despite recording 13 hits in the game, only three came with RISP. In all the Diamondbacks went 3-for-13 with RISP.

Peralta Trying to Spark OF with Dugout Talk

Cameras caught David Peralta in the midst of an animated talk with some of his fellow players on Wednesday night. According to Peralta, he was following a request by Lovullo to be a more vocal leader in the clubhouse and he was simply trying to spark the OF (including himself) to do better.

NC State was playing with only a 13-man roster, nine position players and four pitchers, due to an outbreak of COVID-19.

Today’s scheduled winner-takes-all game between Vanderbilt and NC State to determine who will play in the CWS finals has been declared a no contest by the NCAA. NC State has been removed from the tournament due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
