(Arizona Daily Star) Marlins finish dominating sweep of D-backs in Miami
Pablo López came through with a strikeout when he needed it most, and the Miami Marlins won a close game for a change to complete their first sweep of the season.
López fanned Carson Kelly with two on to end the fifth inning, and four relievers completed a five-hitter to help beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 on Thursday night.
(MLB.com) Three crucial questions after D-backs swept
When it was all over and the Marlins had completed their three-game sweep of the D-backs with a 3-1 victory on Thursday night in Miami, there were three main questions for the D-backs as they packed their bags for a flight to New York and a weekend series against the Mets.
Nothing really new here, but it’s always fun to complain about BSAZ and blackout restrictions.
The Diamondbacks just tweeted out (and I’m struggling to get the tweet to embed) that Merrill Kelly has been reactivated from the IL and Wyatt Mathisen has been sent to the Taxi Squad to make room.

(FOX61) Former MLB manager Bobby Valentine launches Stamford mayoral campaign
In a subsequent video, Valentine said it was with “great humility and perspective from a lifetime of service” that he asks for voters’ support.
“It’s been great to see Stamford grow the way it has grown over the years and I want to lead us into that new world that Stamford will be in the future,” he said.
(MLB.com) Mock draft: No Leiter, Rocker at No. 1?
6. D-backs: Henry Davis, C, Louisville In a down year for college bats, Davis is perhaps the only preseason projected first-rounder in that group to exceed expectations, batting .403/.520/.683 with more walks (29) and extra-base hits (19) than strikeouts (15) while continuing to display plus-plus arm strength.
No make this list, but it’s still an interesting exercise to help us see what’s going on around the league.
(Bleed Cubbie Blue) MLB teams can’t play games under protest anymore
Don’t know if this was covered elsewhere already and I just missed it, but this is news to me. Probably not the biggest change in the world, since as Al points out in the article, very very few are successful. However, given that umpires seem to be getting worse and worse, the timing is intersting to me.
