The Diamondbacks Minor League affiliates combined for a 1-3 record. Close games were the theme of last night’s games, as 3 of the 4 teams were in 1-run games.

Best Pitching Performance: Reno RHP Humberto Castellanos - 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 4 K, W (1-0)
Best Hitting Performance: Visalia SS Sheng-Ping Chen - 3 for 5, 2 2B, 2 RBI, R, 1 K

AAA: Reno Aces 3, Sacramento River Cats (SFG) 2

Humberto Castellanos took the start for Reno and turned in a gem, only allowing a solo home run over 6 innings and struck out 4. Castellanos only needed 73 pitches to clear those 6 innings. The Reno offense wasn’t great, but took advantage of a golden opportunity. In the top of the 5th, Reno would load the bases with no outs on a pair of singles and a hit by pitch. All three runners would score via groundout, single, ground out. After Castellanos left the game, Sam Moll pitched a scoreless 7th and Junior Garcia would pitch a clean 8th inning. Ryan Buchter came in to close the 9th inning, although he would allow a solo homer to Thairo Estrada before getting the final out.

1B Seth Beer: 1 for 3, BB, 1 K, R

AA: Amarillo Sod Poodles 2, Midland Rock Hounds (OAK) 7

Humberto Mejia would take the start for Amarillo and got slammed in this outing. The long ball would bite Mejia big time as the righty allowed 3 home runs and 5 runs in 4 innings. That would put Amarillo behind the 8 ball from the beginning and the offense could not compensate.

RF Alek Thomas: 0 for 3, BB, 1 K
CF Dominic Fletcher: 1 for 4
SS Geraldo Perdomo: 0 for 1, BB, HBP, SF, RBI, 1 K
RHP Humberto Mejia: 4 IP, 3 H, 5 R (5 ER), 3 BB, 3 K, L (0-2)

High A: Hillsboro Hops 1, Vancouver Canadians (TOR) 2

Another struggling day of offense for Hillsboro as they only managed 5 hits. The pitching though was fantastic in this game as Bryce Jarvis dueled C.J. Van Eyk again. Jarvis struggled with command, as he walked 4 in 4 13 innings and threw 84 pitches. Julio Frias would get out of the inning and pitch Hillsboro through the 7th. Nick Snyder would pitch a scoreless 8th, but ran into trouble in the 9th as he would walk 4 batters in the 9th. Kai-Wei Lin would record the final out of the 9th with a strikeout. Reece Hampton would single and steal 2nd with 1 out in the 9th, but was left there as Hillsboro would fail in their 2nd and 3rd chance with a runner in scoring position.

SS Blaze Alexander: 0 for 4, 1 K
RHP Bryce Jarvis: 4 13 IP, 2 H, 1 R (0 ER), 4 BB, 3 K

Low A: Visalia Rawhide 3, Stockton Ports (OAK) 4

Justin Martinez made easily his best start of the year, allowing just 1 run in 5 innings and struck out 6. Sheng-Ping Chen was the offensive star of this game, going 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles to drive in 2 runs and score Visalia’s 3rd run. Stockton would score their first run on a bizarre baserunning play that seems to have broken the box score and play by play (someone in comments want to fill in on that?). The bullpen was not good as Stockton scored twice in the 7th and once in the 8th.

3B A.J. Vukovich: 2 for 4, 1 K
RHP Justin Martinez: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R (1 ER), 3 BB, 6 K
