Merrill Kelly had his best outing of 2021, Carson Kelly provided the offense and the Padres gifted the Diamondbacks two insurance runs. The Arizona victory puts them one game over .500 for the first time in 2021.

Merrill Kelly Keeps Momentum Going

Six innings pitched, only one run allowed. Tuesday night was far and away Merrill Kelly’s best outing of the 2021 season. It came on the heels of a pair of seven-inning shutout performances by Zac Gallen and Madison Bumgarner. The win not only put the Diamondbacks over the .500 mark, but it leapfrogged them above the Padres in the NL West standings.

Diamondbacks Continue to Overcome Adversity

Arizona’s win on Tuesday night was not without its cost. After stealing third base in the sixth inning, Kole Calhoun popped up lame and needed to come out of the game. There is no word yet on how bad the leg tweak was.
