MLBPA Makes Second Core Economic Proposal
The first proposal and ownership’s counterproposal weren’t even in the same hemisphere. While not all the details of this proposal are yet known, the bold strokes would seem to indicate that the chasm has not narrowed any.

Unsurprisingly, Carlos Correa tops the list. Pit readers don’t need to worry about this list too much. The Diamondbacks aren’t going to be in on any of these names.

Justin Verlander Awaiting QO Decision
Justin Verlander has not thrown a pitch in over a year. The 38-year-old’s 2020 season was marred by the pandemic. His 2021 season was lost to recovery from Tommy John surgery. Still, there is a strong non-zero chance that the future HoFer is the best single-season pitcher on the free agent market. The Astros have already begun transitioning to a younger core of pitchers, but extending Verlander a QO could bolster the rotation and add veteran experience to the top of the pitching order as Houston tries to regroup after coming up short in the World Series. The Astros have until tomorrow to make the QO to Verlander if they are going to do so.

Dusty Baker Returning to Houston in 2022
Dusty Baker will take yet another run at trying to manage the Houston Astros to a World Series victory in 2022. The veteran manager has been extended for another season.
