Arizona Diamondbacks October confidence poll

September results

The month of August followed on the heels of a July where the Diamondbacks almost played .500 baseball. While they couldn’t repeat that the following month, August’s record of 11-18 was still considerably better than the hellish landscape of Many and June, where they only won eight games combined. So it’s perhaps not too much of a surprise that there was an increase in confidence shown in our poll taken at the beginning of September.

  • 37% - 1 (not confident in the slightest)
  • 25% - 2
  • 11% - 3
  • 11% - 4
  • 6% - 5
  • 3% - 6
  • 3% - 7
  • 0% - 8
  • 4% - 9 (very, very, VERY confident)

The biggest change was the number in the bottom group. That had been sitting at a clear majority since the beginning of June, and was at 57% when we checked in at the start of August. The drop to 37% in a month does seem quite significant. No particular destination for them: 2, 3 and 5 all went up by 3-4%, and we also say the return of some brave souls to the upper section of the poll. On August 1, only two people went above five, but on September 1, eleven were to be found there. All told, the average went up from 1.87 to 2.70.

Below, you can see the breakdown for the past 12 polls’ results, followed by the line graph showing the trends over this and previous seasons.

September poll

September... Not so good. Going into last night’s finale for the month, the Diamondbacks had a record of 6-18. their worst since the previously mentioned horrors of May and June. Though actually, their run differential of -36 was still pretty close to the figures from July (-37, despite the 11-12 record) and August (-31, 11-18). Part of that is probably the result of a tough schedule: tonight is the last of nineteen straight games against opponents likely to finish the season with 90+ wins [actually, all of them bar the 89-win Mariners are there already] Going 5-13 in those games is probably about what should be expected. But what matters is, has it affected your confidence?

The poll is below, feel free to explain your choice in the comments, especially if it has changed from the September poll.
