Pre-game audio from Torey Lovullo
Madison Bumgarner: It was Torey’s decision not to push him back this weekend. He made the decision after evaluating him and listening to the Medical Team and Madison himself.
Jackie Robinson Day: Has a special connection with the Robinson family as when he was playing at UCLA Mrs. Robinson attended the games there.
Robbie Ray: Still has his rotation spot and is scheduled to pitch in the Dodgers Series
Bullpen Roles: Other than Archie is the closer, no “roles” have been defined and no pitcher has grabbed a spot to be designated as the 7th or 8th inning guy. He’ll just continue to try to identify the “hot hand” and the best matchups.
Andrew Chafin: is still in a hand splint, and has not had chance to test anything or pickup up a baseball and will see hand specialist on Monday for follow up.
Carson Kelly: Not meeting expectations. He’s been having quick, rushed at bats. He does not feel like he’s taking the offensive struggles to his defense. Last year there were concerns about this, and he spoke with him about his body language when on defense. But Torey feels that has not been an issue this year.
Jack’s note: The defensive metrics don’t quite see it that way, but small sample size catcher metrics probably not a good indication of much. Still, the EYE test tells me he’s struggling on defense as well. The throwing and framing clearly seem off at least. I understand Torey not throwing his player under the bus, but it’s not accurate to say Kelly’s defense hasn’t suffered as well.
