Pre-season v2.0 Gameday Thread #2: Diamondbacks @ Dodgers

Hopefully, this will go better than last night’s warm-up...

Admittedly, it would probably be hard pushed to go worse. It went severely downhill after Ketel Marte’s home-run in the top of the first. Taylor Widener opened the game by going walk, walk, single, grand-slam, and that was about it. It might have been different if the single - a line-drive which came off his glove - had been caught, as it’s not impossible that it would have become a triple-play, with the runners going on contact. But, instead, it acted as a salutary reminder that beating the Dodgers is not going to be easy. Then again, that’s been the case for a decade or so. No real change there, then.

Here’s the line-up for tonight’s game in Los Angeles.

It does appear that Calhoun in the lead-off spot is potentially going to be A Thing for the Diamondbacks, at least when Tim Locastro isn’t playing. I’m not so sure: to me, he feels more like a #7 hitter, though I suppose this year, with the DH in effect, line-up construction is going to be different anyway. Speaking of which Ildemaro Vargas is Arizona’s DH. Not quite your prototypical designated hitter, shall we say. Anyway, we’ll see what happens. Next time I post one of these, it’ll count...
