Arizona Diamondbacks July confidence poll

June results

Its really very difficult to read much significance into the number over the past few months. We’ve been largely in a holding pattern, watching the owners and players spat with each other and try to come to an agreement as whether there will be a season at all, and if so, what form it should take. The concept of “confidence” as we have previously been measuring it, seems the product of a bygone time. Still, here are the results from the beginning of June: a total of 59 votes were cast, which is almost identical to what we had at the start of May. It’s probably mostly the same people too. :)

  • 5% - 1 (not confident in the slightest)
  • 3% - 2
  • 9% - 3
  • 0% - 4
  • 12% - 5
  • 17% - 6
  • 29% - 7
  • 17% - 8
  • 8% - 9 (very, very, VERY confident)

A slide down from last month, though overall, probably within the boundaries of random fluctuation at this sample size. About half the number of 9’s, while the 1-3 group roughly doubled in size. Once again “4” fails to trouble the scorers, and it seems to be among the least-loved of tallies. All told, over the last four months we have had a total of 435 votes, and less than a handful have picked it. Though in that time, it does actually have one more than “2”, which went an impressive 0-for-253 in the February poll. Anyway, the average this month was 6.12, down from 6.78 at the start of May.

Below, you can see the breakdown for the past 12 polls’ results, followed by the line graph showing the trends over this and previous seasons.

There was a bonus question for the June poll: “How confident are you about a 2020 season taking place?” Here’s how the results for that broke down.

  • 22% - 1 (not confident in the slightest)
  • 23% - 2
  • 22% - 3
  • 8% - 4
  • 13% - 5
  • 3% - 6
  • 2% - 7
  • 0% - 8
  • 8% - 9 (very, very, VERY confident)

A significant degree of pessimism, with two-thirds in the “3” or lower categories. We also have a bonus question this month, albeit in some ways the same as the above, just phrased in a slightly different way.

July poll

Well, here we are. There is now a plan in place which should see major-league baseball games taking place this month. Keyword there: should. COVID-19 may have other ideas in mind, but all we can see is see how things play out, in this most unprecedented of unprecedented seasons. The D-backs will, however, have to do it without the services of Mike Leake who, as we discussed yesterday, has opted to sit out whatever games end up taking place. Does that impact your confidence at all?
