Snake Pit Sim Season: 4/1

Madison Bumgarner faces his old team in a Wednesday matinee at Chase.

It was a gorgeous day out today, allowing for the game to be played with the roof and panels open. Virtual Lovullo went back to his ‘A’ lineup for the matinee. With tomorrow being an off-day, fatigue should not become an issue.

1st Inning

Neither team managed to do anything in the first, both being retired in order.

SF 0 - AZ 0

2nd Inning

Wilmer Flores led things off for the Giants with a single. That brought up Mike Yastrzemski. With the count 3-0, Flores took off and Yastrzemski took a hefty pass at Bumgarner’s offering. The result was a routine grounder to second. Yastrzemski was out at first, but Flores slid in safe at second. That brought up Austin Riley who cranked a double, scoring Flores. Two more pitches by Bumgarner resulted in two outs, sending the Diamondbacks back to the dugout.

Eduardo Escobar singled to start things off. Christian Walker then grounded into a fielder’s choice, bringing up Kole Calhoun. Calhoun fell behind 0-2 before taking Kevin Gausman deep to right center, landing the ball up on the concourse for an two-run shot that traveled an estimated 448 feet. Kelly and Ahmed both went quietly.

3rd Inning

The Giants and the Diamondbacks were both retired in order for the second time in the game.

4th Inning

Yastrzemski hit a two-out triple to left center, but nothing else materialized for the Giants.

Ketel Marte doubled on the first pitch of the bottom of the fourth. He was followed by Eduardo Escobar who deposited an 0-2 pitch into the pool. Christian Walker popped up to first. Calhoun doubled to left center. Kelly and Ahmed once again were unable to get Calhoun home.

5th Inning

In a groove, Bumgarner retired the Giants in order again in the fifth,

David Peralta hit a two-out double and took third on a wild pitch to Ketel Marte. Marte then grounded out to second to end the inning.

6th Inning

Buster Posey hooked a single through the 5.5 hole. That was followed by a double to left center by Evan Longoria, sending Posey to third. That brought up Flores. Flores singled to center, scoring Posey. Longoria didn’t stop at third, drawing a throw home from Starling Mare. Longoria just beat the throw home. Yastrzemski and Slater then both struck out swinging.

Eduardo Escobar led things off with a double, was was stranded there.

7th Inning

Hunter Pence looped a one-out single, but otherwise, Bumgarner cruised through the seventh inning.

The Giants brought Tony Watson on to pitch. Ahmed jumped all over him and doubled to right center. Stephen Vogt struck out on three pitches, oinch-hitting for Bumgarner. Starling Marte then came up and hit the ball hard to center for a single. Ahmed moved on to third, but held up there as Hamilton got the ball back in quickly. Peralta then grounded into a 6-4-3 double play, stranding Ahmed at third.

8th Inning

Andrew Chafin came on to pitch the eighth and retired the Giants in order.

With one out, Eduardo Escobar hit a single for his fourth hit of the afternoon. That forced a pitching change by the Giants who brought on Tyler Rogers to pitch. He made quick work of the next two Diamondbacks to step up to the plate.

9th Inning

Archie Bradley came on for the save and pitched a clean inning while striking out two of the three batters he faced.

Final Score: SF 3 - AZ 4

Tomorrow will be an off day for the Diamondbacks as they travel to Chicago to face the Cubs. Zac Gallen is slated to take on Kyle Hendricks.
