Ray’s second start of the Cactus League season. If it seems like a while since we last saw him, that’s because it is: his last outing there was back on February 23. However, it’s nothing to be concerned about, as he did take the mound on a backfield game, against a Japanese university team. That was on a day we played the Dodgers, so Torey was likely just trying to stop them from getting too familiar with him. Not so much an issue with the Rangers, of course.
Maybe the offense will kick in. Calhoun and Hicks are actually #1 and #2 in the team for OPS, among players with 10 or more spring at-bats. The former also leads the team with five walks, giving him an on-base percentage of .563. So there’s at least one Arizona player having a good spring. Since we’re about at the half-way stage of the preseason, I’ll probably do a round-up of whose numbers are impressing or not after this game.
