Arizona Diamondbacks left fielder David Peralta ranked ninth on MLB Network’s annual Top 10 Left Fielders Right Now! program last night. Peralta was ranked 10th on last year’s countdown. Hosted by MLB Network’s Brian Kenny alongside MLB Network analysts, each Top 10 Right Now! ranking considers player performance over the last two seasons, with an emphasis on 2019. Offensive, defensive and Statcast metrics, plus expert analysis by the MLB Network research team, are also taken into account when determining each ranking. Here’s their section on our Freight Train.

The complete ranking for MLB Network’s top-10 left fielders is

  1. Juan Soto, Washington Nationals
  2. Michael Brantley, Houston Astros
  3. Bryan Reynolds, Pittsburgh Pirates
  4. Tommy Pham, San Diego Padres
  5. Mark Canha, Oakland Athletics
  6. Austin Meadows, Tampa Bay Rays
  7. Joc Pederson, Los Angeles Dodgers
  8. Kyle Schwarber, Chicago Cubs
  9. David Peralta, Arizona Diamondbacks
  10. Giancarlo Stanton, New York Yankees

They also had their rankings for center fielders, led by some guy called Trout. Ketel Marte wasn’t listed theere, for now being considered a 2B (in line with Mike Hazen’s hopes - we’ll see how that plays out though). But MLB Network analyst Mike Petriello said Marte would probably have ranked fourth on his list there, [The top three overall were Trout, Cody Bellinger and George Springer]
