Diamondbacks News:
Mike Leake pitched his 7th game in a row going deeper than 5 innings and was able to hold onto a win vs Miami at Chase Field. Unfortunatley Josh Rojas continued to struggle at the plate going 0-4 with 2 strikeouts, but Abraham Almonte hit his 1st HR of the season and Christian Walker also smacked his 26th dong of the season. Kevin Ginkel relieved Leake in the 7th, stayed in for the 8th and gave up a run. Torey then went to Bradley to save Ginkel and the Game.
Ketel Marte talks about root cause of injury.
“I feel like next year, when I’m more used to playing center and I have all that experience under my belt,” he said, “then my body will be more conditioned to play the outfield.” Marte has started 92 games in center field in 2019.
Ketel Marte may be out for rest of season.
“The decision isn’t really up to me, but the objective isn’t to make things worse,” Marte said, speaking through interpreter Martin Bater. “There’s only nine games left in the year. Of course, the confidence is there to be able to come back, but the main objective is to be careful and not re-aggravate it.”

The Diamondbacks could still screw things up for Paul Goldschmidt.
An azcentral article about how the D-backs could spoil the NL Central Race and/or the wildcard battle betwixt the Cardinals, Cubs, and Brewers. Why would we want to screw things up for Goldy? If anything, Diamondbacks fans would like to see the Cardinals conquer the Cubs and the Brewers, then go onto destroy Dodger evil in the NLCS. From there, root for whomever. Shame on azcentral.
DEA launches investigation relating to former Diamondbacks pitcher Tyler Skagg’s death.
The Diamondbacks acquired Skaggs in a trade with the Angels in 2010. Skaggs pitched for the D-backs in 2012 and ‘13 before the D-backs traded him back to the Angels in December 2013.
Around Baseball:
Clock turns back to 1983 as a Yastrzemski homers at Fenway.
At least Bruce Bochy was there to see it happen. Also, Grandpa Yastrzemski threw out the 1st pitch of the game to his grandson, Yaztrzemski.
Dodger-evil sells minority stake in team.
There are now 9 Nazgûl in the ownership group.
A Georgia columnists piece on ‘explaining’ baseball to women is even worse than it sounds.
He answers questions like this QUESTION: Why do players pat each other on the butt all the time? Is there some kind of homo-erotic element of the game that we don’t know about?
Hilarious explanation for the ladies ensues...
The biggest surprises and disappointments of the 2019 MLB season.
Disappointment: Phillies offense.
Surprise: Ketel Marte
“Man, this guy has won a lot of fantasy leagues for folks this year. His transformation from a slap-hitting, speedy shortstop to a power-hitting center fielder/second baseman went to a new level, as he has hit .329/.389/.592 with 32 home runs. Here’s a question: Who’s better over the next five years: Marte or Manny Machado?”
Marte for sure, bro.
