The Diamondbacks Minor League affiliates combined for a 2-4 record. Missoula had their game rained out.
Also I will take the time to announce a few promotions to the Hillsboro roster. Outfielders Corbin Carroll and Dominic Canzone along with shortstop prospect Liover Peguero joined the Hops roster for this game.
(AAA) Reno Aces 3, New Orleans Baby Cakes 6: Riley Smith got beat up for 11 hits and 5 runs in 5 2⁄3 innings, allowing 2 homers and striking out 6. Joshua Rojas continued to pace the Aces lineup, getting a solo homer and a double in his 4 trips to the plate. Andy Young would also hit his 15th homer in AAA in the game.
(AA) Jackson Generals 1, Chattanooga Lookouts 4: Matt Peacock also got blasted for 11 hits in 5 2⁄3 innings, although double plays would limit the damage to 4 runs as Peacock walked 1 and struck out 5. The Jackson offense was close to listless in the game, their only run coming on a bases loaded walk by Pavin Smith. The team had only 3 hits (no XBH) and 3 walks while striking out 13 times.
(A+) Visalia Rawhide 3, Stockton Ports 2 (F/10): Alex King’s solo homer with 2 outs in the 9th sent the game into extras, where Luis Alejandro Basabe would hit a walkoff single that plated 2. Matt Andriese went 1 scoreless with 1 strikeout and no walks (now only if he can do that vs. MLB hitters). Presumptive starter Shumpei Yoshikawa would go the next 6 innings, allowing just an unearned run and struck out 7. Mack Lemieux would keep Stockton off the scoreboard for the 8th and 9th innings, allowing King’s blast to tie the game. Closer Breckin Williams came in to save a tie and would allow the free runner to score with 2 outs. Fortunately, the Visalia offense did not feel like making an out as a single and a HBP would load the bases before Basabe’s walkoff single.
(A) Kane County Cougars 8, Cedar Rapids Kernels 0: Levi Kelly’s strong pitching and a pair of big offensive innings was the story of this game. Kelly would go 6 innings, allowing no runs on 3 hits, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts. The Cougars saw production from most of the lineup, although the big hits came off the bats of Kristian Robinson and Zack Shannon. Robinson would have a 2-run triple and a solo homer while Shannon hit a double and a 3-run homer. The two hitters would combine for 6 RBI and 4 of Kane County’s 5 XBH. Ryan Fritze would record the 3-inning save, striking out 3 and allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.
(A-) Hillsboro Hops 2, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 3: Despite the prospect reinforcements in CF and SS, the Hops were unable to put up enough runs to take this game. Drey Jameson would pitch 2 scoreless innings with a walk and a strikeout. Andrew Saalfrank wasn’t as effective, allowing all 3 of SK’s runs in 2 2⁄3 innings and struggled with command with 3 walks but also struck out 6. 2 of those runs charged to Saalfrank would score after he left the game in the 5th. Tristin English would single home a run and Dominic Canzone would get a hit on a run-scoring play that included an error from the RF.
(Rk) AZL Dbacks 1, AZL Reds 5: The Dbacks offense sputtered through this one, collecting only 4 hits and striking out 14 times. Avery Short would allow 1 run on 2 hits in his 1 inning of work with no walks or strikeouts. Justin Martinez would go the next 4 1⁄3 innings, allowing 4 runs to score in the 6th inning. Martinez didn’t get much help from his defense or the pitcher behind him, as 2 inherited runners scored and the team committed 3 errors. Sandy Martinez would get the only RBI for the Dbacks, a 2-out single in the 5th that scored Glenallen Hill Jr.
