Snake Bytes 8/29: Welcome Back to Chase Field

The Arizona Diamondbacks return to Chase Field today, short David Peralta, who just a few days ago opted to have season ending shoulder surgery. The Dodgers are in town for a 4 game series starting tonight at 6:40 p.m. Scheduled to start tonight are Ryu and MKelly. Ryu has dominated his opponents, and is one of the best pitchers in the NL, but something tells me that tonight, “we will, we will, rock Ryu”. MKelly has had a disappointing 2nd half of the season and is fighting for his 2020 rotation spot life, right in front of our eyes.

Merril Kelly needs a strong start as D-backs rotation questions loom.

...when asked if Kelly was entering “dangerous territory” when it came to the possibility of losing his spot in the D-backs’ starting rotation.

“He is. And he knows that,” Lovullo said. “And that’s one of the things that we sat down and hammered out for about an hour with [pitching coach] Mike Butcher and [bullpen coach] Mike Fetters, he and myself. We just got it all out. There’s been several conversations that that group has had with Merrill. I had one in particular a few weeks ago and talked to him about certain things that I wanted to see improve.”

On a hike at North Mountain last week I stumbled upon a rattle-snake that I did not see or hear until I got to close to it. The snake blended in nicely with the loose rock on the path and only when I was 2 feet away from it, did it make it’s presence known with a warning rattle.
