Snake Bytes 8/29: Welcome Back to Chase Field

New, 18 comments

Dodger-evil approaches....

The Arizona Diamondbacks return to Chase Field today, short David Peralta, who just a few days ago opted to have season ending shoulder surgery. The Dodgers are in town for a 4 game series starting tonight at 6:40 p.m. Scheduled to start tonight are Ryu and MKelly. Ryu has dominated his opponents, and is one of the best pitchers in the NL, but something tells me that tonight, “we will, we will, rock Ryu”. MKelly has had a disappointing 2nd half of the season and is fighting for his 2020 rotation spot life, right in front of our eyes.

Diamondbacks News:

Merril Kelly needs a strong start as D-backs rotation questions loom.

...when asked if Kelly was entering “dangerous territory” when it came to the possibility of losing his spot in the D-backs’ starting rotation.

“He is. And he knows that,” Lovullo said. “And that’s one of the things that we sat down and hammered out for about an hour with [pitching coach] Mike Butcher and [bullpen coach] Mike Fetters, he and myself. We just got it all out. There’s been several conversations that that group has had with Merrill. I had one in particular a few weeks ago and talked to him about certain things that I wanted to see improve.”

Arizona Fall League rosters announced.

D-backs (Salt River): Seth Beer, 1B (No. 4, MLB No. 97); Geraldo Perdomo, SS (No. 7); Jake McCarthy, OF (No. 28); Miguel Aguilar, LHP; Matt Brill, RHP; Matt Peacock, RHP; Cody Reed, LHP

D-backs pub crawl lets you go behind the scenes while you reach your final form.

I won’t lie, I considered participating in this bar crawl at Chase Field. On paper it sounds cool, bar hopping in the A/C, checking out the sights and sounds of behind the scenes etc.

Golfing at Chase Field? Top Golf Live is coming to the ballpark this December.

I personally think it is great that the Diamondbacks are hosting/promoting more events at Chase Field. Get that “fix it up - not gonna leave town $$”, bros.

Around Baseball:

15 former MLB players that still play professional baseball.

Our dear friend Shelby Miller is on this list, though he was just granted a release from the Brewers organization. Hopefully Miller will be playing professional baseball in F-OFF land very soon.

Group trying to bring MLB to Nashville has chosen team name: Nashville Stars.

Our dear friend Dave Stewart is with this group listed as one of the Board of Directors.

How much profit might MLB owners make by selling their team?

In April, Forbes estimated the Royals’ franchise value at $1.1 billion. If you’re handy with a calculator, the numbers do not lie: Glass, in that scenario, would net nearly $1 billion from the sale.”

Off Topic Snake News:

How to treat a snake bite when you’re stuck in the worst-case scenario.

On a hike at North Mountain last week I stumbled upon a rattle-snake that I did not see or hear until I got to close to it. The snake blended in nicely with the loose rock on the path and only when I was 2 feet away from it, did it make it’s presence known with a warning rattle. Had I been bit I realized I would not know what to do. The article above offers guidance.
