David's value?

David

Behold David

Are we walking down a path paved with gold with our freight train bound out of town or do we have a Da Vinci?

According to MLBRumors the DBacks may or may not be shopping David Peralta around the league. With one trade deadline this year the result of their search will be known this month.

David had a breakout year last year. Raking the ball and playing an average outfield.

He's arbitration eligible for one more year and signed this year for $7 million. Next year will cost more. David is having a less dominating year. Partly from injury, as before he hurt his shoulder he was mashing to start the year. He should hopefully be healed up by the end of the All-Star break.

All that said, should he be kept, traded or considered?

The All-Star game is here and man, up-down-up-down rinse repeat season. Really pick a time and it's mostly bad or mostly good. This resulted in a slightly better than .500 record and a chance at a Wildcard.

GM Mike Hazen made it clear we're in it to compete. No trade then? Whoa! Hold up. The dude traded franchise icon Goldy and let Corbin and Pollack leave. hmmm, more to it then.

My bet is we keep Peralta. A lot to her. Very much he, Jones and Escobar are the spirit of the team. For the DBacks to win they need it, but if the right deal comes along that can improve the team in the near or immediate future, don't be surprised if David is traded. Like Goldy, Hazen will weigh value and performance.

We'll see.I like David's fight and gumption and I like what he brings to the team. 13.7 WAR from a scrap heap pitcher from the Cardinals system shows his heart and determination. Unless the DBacks get a sweet deal expect the Freight train to stay on the tracks in Phoenix!
