MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks at Los Angeles Dodgers Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

I do not know about you but I for one am refusing to give Torey Lovullo a pass on last night’s loss. Before the game Torey took the usual questions about Holland and the record breaking walks the night before in game 1 of the series. Torey indicated that he felt like Holland could pitch his way out of the mess (4 consecutive walks with no outs) because Greg Holland has the experience, is the “closer”, and has shown he can get out of tough jams. Does that sound familiar? *cough Godley, *cough Bradley *cough *cough

Last night’s game should have been different but it was not due to manager Torey Lovullo’s loyalty to a single player and their “roll.” During the pre-game show Torey parroted the same crap and made it clear he will go to Holland again to close game 2. The definition of insanity indeed. Torey’s expansive patience, gullibility, and individual player loyalty is costing The Diamondbacks and frankly it’s embarrassing.

Diamondbacks News:

Arizona Holland-Lovullo’s 4, Los Angeles Dodgers 5: The definition of insanity.

David Peralta was removed from this game after his at bat in the top of the third. It’s reported that his shoulder was bothering him again, the same injury that kept him shelved earlier in the season.

Peralta will get an MRI.

From the article: Peralta is hitting a pedestrian .252/.342/.388 since returning from the injured list at the beginning of June.

Taylor Widener gets back on track in Reno.

“That’s everybody’s goal, to be a candidate to pitch for the big league team,” Widener said. “But I don’t really look at it that way. Whenever they think I’m ready is when I’m ready.”

Greg Holland’s closer job at risk after 2nd consecutive blown save.

Lovullo wasn’t willing to make a rash decision in the immediate aftermath of another late-inning collapse. “I’m in an emotional state right now,” he said. “I want to probably think through it with a clear head.”

Tampa Bay has disappointed as a baseball market, but have the Rays disappointed ?

Cheaper tickets produced bigger crowds this week, which suggests stadium location and other complaints are not the only factors in woeful attendance.

Odubel Herrera could still face discipline from MLB despite all charges being dropped

Per the domestic violence policy negotiated by MLB and the players association in 2015, the commissioner is authorized to discipline a player independent of the findings of a court.
