Diamondbacks Minor League Recap 7/25/2019

The Diamondbacks Minor League affiliates combined for a 5-2 record

(AAA) Reno Aces 4, Tacoma Rainiers 3: Taylor Widener found himself the victim of the long ball again, allowing 3 runs on 2 home runs in 6+ innings. The second homer he allowed would break up a 2-2 tie and also be the only batter he faced in the 7th inning. The Aces scored their first 2 runs on an RBI double by Blake Swihart and a solo homer from John Ryan Murphy. The Aces would come back in the 8th with a game-tying double from Domingo Leyba to score Swihart before scoring on a sac fly from Matt Szczur to take a 4-3 lead. Kevin Ginkel would close things out with a clean 9th with 2 of the outs coming on strikes.

(AA) Jackson Generals 1, Mississippi Braves 3: Josh Green made a strong start with 7 scoreless innings on 6 hits and 4 strikeouts as he had that ground ball working. The Jackson offense could not get anything going for the 2nd night in a row, needing an error to score their only run. In the last 2 games, Jackson has gone 0 for 14 with RISP and stranded 14. Despite all that, they took a 1-0 lead in the 8th. Miguel Aguilar would get 2 outs in the 8th, but also coughed up the lead on 3 singles. Cameron Gann would allow 2 more runs to score before getting the final out on a runner trying to score from 1st on a single.

(A+) Visalia Rawhide 4, San Jose Giants 3: Justin Vernia would allow a run in each of the first 3 innings, but settled in to give 7 innings in total. Visalia would battle back in the middle innings as Eduardo Diaz would triple in 2 runs in the 5th and legged out a potential double play ball to the 3B to tie it. 2 scoreless innings from Cole Bartlett kept things tied going into the bottom of the 9th. 4 pitches later, Anfernee Grier would crush a ball to left for a walk-off solo homer. Grier would be a triple short of the cycle in this game and scored 3 of Visalia’s 4 runs.

(A) Kane County Cougars 4, Clinton LumberKings 2: A 4-run 4th inning was enough to make the Cougars a winner. With the bases loaded, Tim Susnara dropped down a beautiful bunt between the 1B and 2B for the first run before Geraldo Perdomo cleared the bases with a double. Adrian Del Moral would pitch 5 shutout innings, allowing just 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out 2. Kenny Hernandez would run into trouble in the 6th, allowing 2 runs to score but then delivered a pair of zeros afterwards. Kai-Wei Lin would strike out the side in order in the 9th for the save, needing just 13 pitches to get the job done.

(A-) Hillsboro Hops 0, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 2: Luis Frias would allow a run in 5 innings with 4 strikeouts to 2 walks, but got charged with a loss due to an offense that did close to nothing. The Hops picked up 6 hits and a couple walks, but failed to capitalize as the team went 0 for 8 with RISP. Conor Grammes would allow a run in the 6th while the rest of the bullpen pitched scoreless games.

(Rk+) Missoula Osprey 13, Billings Mustangs 11: Pitching was optional in this game as both games hit the cover off the ball. Crooked numbers were littered all over the scorebaord as Missoula had 4 such innings, including 4 in the 8th to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Jose Reyes and Dominic Canzone would drive in 4 runs each while Douglas Lanza led the team with 3 hits. Ryan Fritze would be the only Missoula pitcher to have a scoreless outing, as he saved the game in the 9th to seal the win.

(Rk) AZL Dbacks 3, AZL Cubs One 2: The Dbacks won this game by being less sloppy than their opponent. Despite not mounting up much offense, the baserunning took advantage of every miscue. Leodany Perez would be hit by a pitch to start off the game, stole 2nd, and would eventually score on a wild pitch in the 1st. Neyfy Castillo would add a solo homer in the 4th to take the lead again. Glenallen Hill Jr. would use his legs to create another run as he walked in the 5th, stole 2nd, then score on a single by Sandy Martinez. The Dbacks pitching was solid, Argenis Bravo would allow just 1 run in 5 innings. Francis Beriguete would be the only other Dbacks pitcher to allow a run, lasting 2 13 innings and allowing just 1 run. Jhosmer Valdez would get the final 5 outs of the game, 4 on strikes to pick up the save.
