Minor League Recap 7/1/19

Diamondbacks affiliates won just three out of eight games played on Monday

Dbacks affiliates took just three out of eight games played, with the AZL D-Backs having a scheduled day off. No snake bytes today/highlighted performances today with the losses and the fact that I wrote the last half of this on a phone.

Reno Aces 7 Las Vegas Aviators 8

Matt Koch got start, went 5.0 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits (including a solo homer in the fourth) a hit batter, and a walk, while striking out four. Ben Taylor went 2.0 innings and allowed a run on a hit, while walking none and striking out a pair. Jimmy Sherfy went an inning and allowed two runs on a hit and a walk.

The Aces scored all seven on their runs on five home runs. Domingo Leyba continued his homer happy hot streak in this one, going 3-5 with a solo homer in the 6th and a two run homer in the 9th. Andy Young hit a solo homer in the top of the second, Wyatt Mathisen hit a two run homer in the 7th, and Kevin Cron hit a solo homer in the 7th.

Montgomery Biscuits 3 Jackson Generals 10

Cole Stapler went 5.0 innings and allowed all three runs in the first on four hits and four walks, while striking out four. Matt Brill pitched an easy 1-2-3 inning in the sixth. Miguel Aguilar allowed a hit and a walk, while striking out a pair in two scoreless innings. Michael Kohn also faced the minimum in the ninth.

Down 3-0 going into the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Generals scored seven runs, and added an eighth run in the third, before finally adding a ninth and tenth run in the 8th inning to make this one a laugher. The seven run second inning got started with a Ramon Hernandez double. A Jazz Chisholm grounder advanced Hernandez to third, and a walk to Jeffrey Baez put runners on the corners for Dominic Miroglio. Miroglio singled, scoring Hernandez, and advanced Baez to second. Galli Cribbs followed with another single, scoring Baez, and advancing Miroglio a base. Ben DeLuzio grounded into a force out, with Cribbs out at second, and putting runners on the corners. Daulton Varsho then singled, scoring Miroglio, and putting runners on the corners once again. Jamie Westbrook followed with another single, scoring Ben Deluzio. Pavin Smith then capped things off with a three run homer. The Generals scored the run in the bottom of the third after Dominic Miroglio walked, and Galli Cribbs tripled, scoring Miroglio. In the bottom of the eighth, Ben DeLuzio singled and stole second, Daulton Varsho walked, and Pavin Smith doubled, scoring DeLuzio and Varsho.

Stockton Ports 4 Visalia Rawhide 3

Justin Lewis struck out eight batters in 5.0 innings and allowed three runs on five hits, a hit batter, and a walk. Cole Bartlett went three innings, pitching a scoreless sixth and seventh, but an unearned run would cross the plate in the eighth thanks to an error by Joe Gillette. Justin Miller struck out a pair of batters in a scoreless eighth inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, Jake McCarthy singled, stole second, then immediately stole third, and scored on a groundout. Jancarlos Cintron tripled and scored on a ground out in in the bottom of the fifth for a second run. LT Tolbert walked and scored on a Luis Alejandro Basabe double in the bottom of the eighth for a third run.

Kane County Cougars 1 Cedar Rapids Kernels 4

Kenny Hernandez went 6.0 innings and allowed just one run on five hits and a walk, while striking out four. With the scored tied at 1-1, Ryan Miller put up a scoreless seventh, but unfortunately allowed three runs in the eighth. Miller allowed three on four hits, including a two run homerun. The lone run for the Cougars came via Zachery Almond solo homer.

Hillsboro Hops 6 Vancouver Canadians 3

Marcos Tineo tossed five scoreless innings, and allowed three hits, a hit batter, and a walk, with three strikeouts. Jacob Stevens replaced Tineo and was unable to get out of the sixth, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk. Stevens was hit hard, with a homer and two doubles allowed. Yaramil Hiraldo got the final out to end the sixth, and faced the minimum in a scoreless seventh. Jake Polancic and Bryan Menendez both faced the minimum as well the in the eighth and ninth, with the latter striking out a batter.

Idaho Falls Chukars 6 Missoula Osprey 4

Austin Pope struck out two in a scoreless inning to start the game, facing the minimum. Edgar Martinez went 3.2 innings, allowed three runs on four hits (with a solo homer allowed), and struck out a pair of batters. Liu Fuenmayor struck out five batters in 3.1 innings, but allowed two runs on five hits. Landon Whitson faced the minimum and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

The Osprey got board first in the second, after Liover Peguero singled, advanced to second after Tristin Carranza was hit by a pitch, then third on a ground out, and scored on a Jose Reyes single. They'd add another run after Spencer Brickhouse walked, advanced to second after Peguero walked, and then third after Carranza grounded into a double play. and scored on Dominic Canzone double.

Down 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth, the Osprey tied it up after Tristin Carranza was hit by a pitch and Dominic Canzone homered. Unfortunately Fuenmayor coughed up two runs, and the Osprey weren't able to rally and tie back up after that.

DSL D-backs1 0 DSL Reds 1 F/10

Victor Rodriguez got the start, went 5.0 scoreless innings and allowed a pair of hit, a hit batter, and three walks, while striking out four. Jean Marcelino pitched 3.0 scoreless innings to follow, with just a walk allowed, and four strikeouts. Enmanuel Acosta pitched a scoreless ninth, but coughed up an unearned run after two outs in the tenth, ending the game.

The DBacks1 just couldn't get it done at the plate, with just two hits and four walks, and were 0-6 with runners in scoring in position.

DSLRangers2 2 D-Backs2 8

Luis Mendoza pitched 4.0 innings and allowed just one run, in the top of the first, on three hits and fours walks, while striking out a pair of batters. Carlos Telleria went three innings, and allowed three hits and two walks, while striking out three. Osvaldo Morel pitched 2.0 innings, allowed one run on two hits and two walks, and struck out a batter. D

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the first, the D-Backs2 scored a run after Carlos Goris walked, advanced to third after Alvin Guzman reached on a fielding error. Goris was caught stealing home, but Guzman managed to advance to second, and score when Ramses Malave reached on a fielding error. With the game still tied in the bottom of the fifth, the Dbacks2 plated four runs. Alvin Guzman walked, Luis Rubio singled, putting runners on the corners. Ramses Malave hit a sac fly, scoring Guzman. After a ground out, Dairon Cuevas singled, putting runners on the corners again. Ricardo Caldera doubled, scoring Rubio. Esteban Aquino then reached on an error, scoring Cuevas and Caldera. In the bottom of the sixth, Carlos Goris singled and stole second, and advanced to third on a ground out. Then Luis Rubio, Ramses Malave, Raykel Guillermes hit back-to-back-to-back doubles, scoring Goris, then Rubio, and then Malave.
