Diamondbacks Minor League Recap 6/4/19

The Diamondbacks Minor League affiliates combined for a 1-3 record. Here are the stars from last night’s games:

☆☆☆ Reno LHP Alex Young 5 IP, 6 H, 1 R (1 ER), 0 BB, 5 K, W (3-2)
☆☆ Reno SS/2B Domingo Leyba 2 for 4, 3-run HR (10)
☆ Jackson LF Jamie Westbrook 2 for 4, 2-run HR (9)

(AAA) Reno Aces 3, Nashville Sounds 2: In a surprising pitcher’s duel, Alex Young would come out on top. The lefty pitched 5 innings of 1-run ball, scattering 6 hits and striking out 5. The Aces offense came with one swing of the bat as Domingo Leyba hit a 2-out, 3-run homer in the 4th that gave Reno a 3-1 lead. The bullpen would make it stand, thanks to scoreless outings by Stefan Crichton and Jimmie Sherfy.

(AA) Jackson Generals 3, Birmingham Barons 4: Jackson came out swinging in the top of the first. Andy Young doubled home Daulton Varsho before Jamie Westbrook capped off the inning with a 2-run homer. Connor Gray got hit pretty hard in this game, surrendering 3 runs on 8 hits over 4 innings. Cameron Gann would come in the 5th and surrender the eventual winning run before pitching a scoreless 6th. Despite multiple rallies, Jackson could not find a way to tie the game in the late stages.

(A+) Visalia Rawhide 0, Stockton Ports 4: Visalia hitters could not figure out Brady Feigl, as he struck out 9 Rawhide batters over 8 innings. Visalia would grab 7 hits, the only XBH being a double by Anfernee Grier, and strike out 10 times as a team with no walks. Cole Stapler allowed 4 runs on 7 hits over 6 innings, striking out 6 and walking none to take the loss.

(A) Kane County Cougars 0, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6: Despite getting 8 hits and 5 walks, the Cougars could not put any runners across the plate. They went 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position and ultimately left 10 on base for the game despite multiple chances. Michel Gelabert had to be lifted after getting just 2 outs, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits and a walk. Poor defense contributed to Kane County’s demise as the team committed 3 errors in the game.
