Birmingham Barons 6, Jackson Generals 0 (Makeup of May 10)
Kevin McCanna went all seven innings of the second game of the doubleheader, and allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits and a walk, while striking out four. The offense didn’t show up either, with just three hits and two walks. Daulton Varsho was the only player with any real success, going 2-2 with a hit a by pitch. Jeffrey Baez had a single, and Andy Young reached on a hit by pitch.
Visalia Rawhide 4 Stockton Ports 2
Matt Mercer pitched the first three innings, and allowed two runs (one unearned thanks to catcher's interference) on four hits and two walks, while striking out four. Luis Castillo followed with three scoreless innings, allowing just hits while striking out four. Mack Lemieux pitched a scoreless inning in the seventh, and struck out three, but allowed a hit, two walks, and hit a batter. Lemieux walked the one batter he faced in the eighth inning, then was taken out for Breckin Williams. William pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth, allowed a pair of hits, while striking out a pair of batters.
The Rawhide got on board in top of the second when Jack McCarthy doubled, Camden Duzenack was hit by pitch, and then they executed a double steal, putting runners on second and third for Anfernee Grier. Grier singled, scoring both, and would get thrown out trying to steal second. The Rawhide tacked another run in the third, when JanCarlos Cintron singled, advanced on a passed ball and a groundout, then scored on a Mark Karaviotis single. Visalia scored an insurance run in the seventh when Anfernee Grier reached on a throwing error, advanced on a passed ball, and then scored when Tim Susnara reached on another fielding error.
DSL D-Backs1 4 DSL Padres 3
Hamilton Andujar pitched five scoreless innings and allowed a hit by pitch, two hits and a walk, while striking out six. Luis Urias pitched 2.2 innings and allowed three runs on a pair of wild pitches, a hit by pitch, a pair of walks, and a pair of hits. To be fair to Urias, Jose Garcia inherited three runners when he relieved in Urias in the eighth inning, and allowed two to score. Garcia pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, and allowed a hit, a walk, and a wild pitch, while striking out two.
The Dbacks1 scored all four runs in the fourth, thanks in part to a poorly timed wild pitch. Endy Estrada, Christian Estrella, and Manual Garcia hit back-to-back-to-back singles, and then a wild pitch allowed Estrada and Estrella to score. After a strike out, Juan Padron gott hit by a pitch and then Garcia and Padron scored on a Jeferson Espinal double.
DSL D-Backs2 11 DSL Cub2 2
The Dbacks2 (Can we get them an actual, not lazy at some point, seriously Diamondbacks?) scored five runs in the seventh and five runs in the ninth to make this one a total laugher, while the pitching shut the Cubs2 down until the bottom of the seventh.
Rigoberto Borbolla pitched five scoreless innings, with just one hit and three walks to five strikeouts. Bryam Pena pitched 1.2 innings, and allowed two runs on three hits (including a solo homer) and four walks, while striking out one. Bernardo Rodriguez followed 2.1 scoreless inning, with a hit and three walks allowed, while striking out five. Rodriguez came on with the bases load and did not allow any of the inherited runners to score.
The Dbacks2 got a run on the board in the fifth, when Carlos Goris singled, Leodany Perez was hit by a pitch, and Alvin Guzman singled, scoring Goris. The Dbacks2 scored five runs in the top of the seventh, with Teofilo Mendez homered to lead off the inning. After a strikeout, Ricardo Caldera singled, Carlos Goris walked, and Leodany Perez singled, scoring Caldera. Alvin Guzman followed with a single to load the bases, and then Luis Rubio walked, forcing in a run. Neyfy Castillo then doubled, scoring Perez and Guzman.
The Dbacks2 had another five run inning in the ninth. Leodany Perez singled to lead off the inning, and Alvin Guzman, the next batter, followed with a two run homer. Luis Rubio walked, then after a strikeout, Danyer Sabria singled. Another strikeout later, and Dairon Cuevas, Ricardo Caldera, and Carlos Goris hit back-to-back-to-back singles, scoring Rubio, Sabria, and Caldera.
