The Diamondbacks Minor League affiliates combined to go 1-3.
Here are the stars from last night’s game:
☆☆☆ Jackson RHP Matt Peacock 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
☆☆ Reno 2B/3B Wyatt Mathisen 3 for 3, HR (13), 3 RBI
☆ Jackson PH Andy Young 1 for 1, Grand Slam
(AAA) Reno Aces 8, Round Rock Express 10: The Aces fell behind early as Matt Koch allowed 5 runs in 5 innings, allowing 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. That put Reno behind 5-0 and the bullpen did very little to keep Reno in the game. Bradin Hagens allowed 4 runs in 2 innings and Ben Taylor allowed a run in his single inning. The Aces would score 7 runs in their final three trips to the plate. Matt Szczur and Wyatt Mathisen both homered in the game.
(AA) Jackson Generals 5, Biloxi Shuckers 4: Matt Peacock provided Jackson with a quality start, scattering 3 hits and 2 walks thanks to an 11/2 GO/AO ratio in the game. Tyler Mark relieved him in the 6th and it went horribly wrong as he allowed 3 runs on 2 hits and walked 5 hitters in just 1⁄3 of an inning. Bud Jeter was able to prevent any more damage by stranding all three inherited runners. That would prove to be huge as Andy Young would pinch hit with the bases loaded and launch a grand slam that would give Jackson a 4-3 lead. Matt Brill was not able to hold onto the lead as he allowed 2 hits in the inning, which sandwiched by a fielding error at 1st resulted in the tying run scoring. Jamie Westbrook would drive in Drew Ellis in the bottom half of the 8th to retake the lead for good.
(A+) Visalia Rawhide 3, San Jose Giants 4: Shoddy defense would allow San Jose to score three runs (1 earned) against Rawhide starter Jeff Bain. Bain allowed 7 hits, walked none, and struck out 9 over 6 innings. Visalia would come back to tie it. Alex King would drive in a run with a sac fly in the 2nd and Renae Martinez launched a 2-run homer in the 6th to knot things up at 3-3. Visalia was unable to add on from there, which proved to be fatal as Cole Bartlett allowed the Giants to score the winning run in the 8th inning.
(A) Kane County Cougars 6, Burlington Bees 7: Matt Tabor pitched 5 solid innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, no walks, and 7 strikeouts. Geraldo Perdomo would hit out a 2-run homer to tie the game at 2-2 in the 4th and Tra Holmes would single in the go-ahead run to cap a 3-run frame to put Tabor in line for the win. Unfortunately, Wesley Rodriguez imploded in the Kane County bullpen as he allowed 4 hits and walked 2 in 2⁄3 of an inning. 5 of the 6 runners he put on base ended up scoring and it gave Burlington a 7-3 lead. A 2-run double by Zachery Almond and a sac fly by Eduardo Diaz put Kane County within a run, but they could not break through in their final 3 trips to the plate.
