Diamondbacks Minor League Recap 6/11/19

The Diamondbacks minor league affiliates combined to go 2-2 yesterday.

Here were the stars

☆☆☆ Kane County 1B Joey Rose 4 for 5, 2B, HR (1), 3 RBI, 2 R
☆☆ Jackson RHP Joel Payamps 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R (1 ER), 0 BB, 3 K, W (1-1)
☆ Jackson RHP Kevin McCanna 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K

(AA) Jackson Generals 2/1, Mississippi Braves 1/7: The Generals and Braves played a doubleheader, splitting both games. In the opening game, Joel Payamps allowed just 1 run in 5 innings. Drew Ellis launched a 2 run homer in the 4th inning for Jackson’s runs. Cameron Gann, Junior Garcia, and Damien Magnifico pieced together two scoreless innings to seal the win.

The second game started off nicely for Jackson as well. Kevin McCanna blanked the Braves for 5 innings. The game remained scoreless until the 6th when Jeffrey Baez singled home Andy Young, who doubled to start the inning. Unfortunately, Matt Brill would struggle in the 7th, retiring only 1 of 9 hitters overall with 7 of them scoring. Infielder Galli Cribbs Jr., who we can say is probably now a 2-way player, finished the inning after the damage was done.

(A+) Visalia Rawhide 4, Modesto Nuts 9: Cole Stapler struggled over 4 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, no walks, and 6 strikeouts. Ryan Fritze didn’t help much either, allowing both of Stapler’s inherited runners to score before giving up 4 more runs of his own on a pair of home runs. Camden Duzenack homered in the first to give Visalia an early 1-0 lead, but the Rawhide could not build on it. Visalia would scratch a run in the 6th and two more in the 7th, but barely put a dent in the scoreboard overall.

(A) Kane County Cougars 10, Burlington Bees 4: A comedy of errors allowed Burlington to score 3 runs in the top of the first. However, that’s all Levi Kelly would allow in 5 innings, as he punched out 9 hitters in the process. Visalia would counter with 8 unanswered runs. Joey Rose went 4 for 5 in his return to Kane County a year after struggling there, and fell a triple short of the cycle. Zack Shannon hit a 3-run homer in the 4th and Eddie Hernandez belted out a grand slam in the 5th to blow the game open. Rose would add a 2-run homer in the 8th for the final two runs of the game. Ryan Miller pitched 3 innings of 1 run ball and Kenny Hernandez struck out the side in order in the 9th on 17 pitches.
