Minor League Recap 6/9/19: A Tale of Two Brad(e/i)ns

New, comment

Reno Aces pitchers Braden Shiply and Bradin Hagens and very different results on Sunday

Diamondbacks affiliates took only one out of the three games played on Sunday. Jackson’s game was rained out once again, they will play a doubleheader on Monday, June 10th. The two Dominican Summer Leagues had their regularly scheduled day off. No Snake stars or highlighted performance with only one win and three games played.

Reno Aces 4 vs Memphis Redbirds 7

Braden Shipley got the start and was solid through six innings of work. Shipley allowed two runs on eight hits (including a solo homer in the fifth) and one walk, while striking out six. Bradin Hagens had a much less successful outing, getting just one out in the seventh. Hagens was tagged with five runs on five hits and two walks, though Robby Scott should get some blame for walking in a run before getting the third out of the inning. Scott pitched one and two thirds innings and allowed a hit and a walk, while striking out three. Ryan Atkinson pitched a scoreless ninth, with a walk and a strikeout.

The Aces got on board in the first when Yasmany Tomas tripled in Abraham Almonte. The Redbirds shut down the Aces and scored seven runs before the Aces scored in the bottom of the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth with one out, Wyatt Mathisen reached on a hit by pitch, John Ryan Murphy singled, then Marty Herum followed up with another single, scoring Mathisen and putting runners on first and second. An out later, Travis Snider walked, loading the bases, and then Abraham Almonte walked as well, forcing in another run. The Aces rallied in the ninth and scored a run, but ultimately came up short. Wyatt Mathisen doubled, and John Ryan Murphy singled, scoring Mathisen from second. Marty Herum walked, but Caleb Joseph went down on strikes to end the game.

Visalia Rawhide 10 @ Modesto Nuts 2

Matt Mercer struck out seven in four innings and allowed two runs on five hits, two walks, and a wild pitch. Cole Bartlett pitched three scoreless innings and allowed three hits and a walk, while striking out four. Breckin Williams and Jayson McKinley both pitched a scoreless inning with a hit allowed, with a strikeout a piece.

A six run seventh inning powered the Rawhide to a win. Maro Karaviotis had the only extra base hit, a double. Karaviotis and Jake McCarthy had three hit games, while Jancarlos Cintron and Tim Susnara both had two hit games.

Kane County Cougars 3 vs Quad Cities River Bandits 5

Ryan Weiss went four and a third innings, and allowed one run on five hits and three walks, while striking out six. Ethan Larrison struck out one in one and two thirds scoreless innings, with just a walk allowed. Franklyn Soriano went two thirds of an inning and allowed four runs on two hits and two hit by pitches. Wesley Rodriguez relieved Soriano, with three on and two outs, and allowed all three runners to score. Rodriguez pitched one and a third innings, allowing just the lone hit that cleared bases in the eighth, while striking out a pair.

Blaze Alexander doubled in a pair of runs in the first and Tra Holmes singled in a run in the second, but the Cougars couldn't produce anymore runs after that.
