The Diamondbacks Minor League affiliates combined to go 3-1 last night.
Here are the stars of last night’s games:
3 Stars: Kane County RHP Jackson Goddard 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K, W (2-1)
2 Stars: Jackson RHP Bo Takahashi 5 2⁄3 IP, 3 H, 1 R (1 ER), 3 BB, 7 K
1 Star: Reno 1B Kevin Cron 1 for 3, 2-R HR (13), BB, 2 R
0 Stars: Visalia C Renae Martinez 0 for 4, 3 K
(AAA) Reno Aces 4, Tacoma Rainiers 3: Both teams started off with a trio of zeros until Kevin Cron’s 2-run homer opened up the scoring. A bases-loaded sac fly by Marty Herum gave Reno a 3-0 lead. Justin Donatella gave up a 2-run homer of his own in the bottom of the 4th to make it 3-2. Donatella allowed just those 2 runs over 5 innings with a 4/2 K/BB to secure the win. Yasmany Tomas blooped a single into shallow RF to score Cron in the 5th to make it 4-2 while the bullpen dearly held onto that lead. Tacoma would score again in the 7th, but got zeros from Marc Rzepczynski, Rubby De La Rosa, and Jimmie Sherfy to close it out at the end.
(AA) Jackson Generals 3, Birmingham Barons 2: Bo Takahashi allowed just 1 run in 5 2⁄3 innings, but got a no-decision due to literally zero run support. It wasn’t until the bottom of the 8th until Jackson started making things happen offensively. After the first two hitters reached on an Andy Young HBP (10 already for him) and a Pavin Smith single, Jeffrey Baez sacrificed both runners into scoring position. The move worked as Daulton Varsho blooped in a single to score both runners. After Varsho was caught stealing 3rd and a Jazz Chisholm double, Ramon Hernandez singled in the winning run. Ginkel surrendered two hits, but got the job done in a scoreless 9th inning to save it.
(A+) Visalia Rawhide 1, Lake Elsinore Storm 5: Visalia would score first with a sac fly in the 2nd, but then the bats went silent the rest of the way with just 1 hit in the final 7 frames. Cole Stapler was shaky with 4 runs on 8 hits allowed in 4 innings. The Visalia hitters had a bad day, with just 5 baserunners via hit or walk. Yoel Yanqui had the only XBH while also reaching base twice and scoring Visalia’s only run.
(A) Kane County Cougars 8, Great Lakes Loons 1: Kane County plated 2 early runs on an Andy Yerzy RBI single in the 2nd and a solo homer by Eduardo Diaz in the 3rd. Jackson Goddard made those two runs stand, striking out 5 in 5 scoreless innings. The Cougars hitters would blow things open with a 5-run 7th inning in which the prospects Geraldo Perdomo, Alek Thomas, Yerzy, and Blaze Alexander played key roles. Perdomo would add an RBI single in the 8th for the final run. Franklyn Soriano, Blake Workman, and Chester Pimentel combined for 4 innings of 1 run ball to close things out.
