MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona Diamondbacks 1, San Diego Padres 2

[AZ Central] Franmil Reyes spoils Luke Weaver’s start as Diamondbacks fall to Padres - Luke Weaver was in control for most of his start against the San Diego Padres last night. San Diego only had one hit against him through 5 & 13 innings, but unfortunately a single followed by a two run home run from Franmil Reyes in the 6th was the deciding factor in this game.

[D’backs.com] Cold bats put Weaver on wrong end of duel - Offense was essentially non existent for Arizona again. The team managed only five total hits and in a key moment left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh. Arizona had loaded the bases on one out with three straight walks, but Jarrod Dyson struck out and Ketel Marte grounded out failing to bring in even the tying run.

Diamondbacks News

[D’backs.com] Godley to ‘pen as D-backs weigh rotation options - We’ve heard this tune before this season. Zack Godley is “in the bullpen” again. Maybe this time Taylor Clarke and/or Jon Duplantier stay up from Reno for longer than a pair of games.

“We’re going to stay with that decision for the time being,” Lovullo said. “These are the kind of conversations that are never easy. But we’re going to go that route. I made it as clear as I possibly could that this was the best solution for this team, and he’s going to be ready to go. He didn’t like the news. I didn’t expect that he would, because he wants to start. But he’s going to go down there and be the best version that he can possibly be.”

[Arizona Sports] Diamondbacks, Padres agree to play series in Mexico City in 2020 - Official announcement is expected Wednesday. The D’backs have no shortage of fans in Mexico City as we saw when they played the Rockies there in Spring Training earlier this year.

[Arizona Sports] Reno Aces hit 10 home runs, Yasmany Tomas goes yard 4 times - Ya’ll beat this topic to death in the comments section of Bytes yesterday. I’ve got no further commentary to add to the subject other than holy cow, Kevin Cron. 21 home runs in 42 games? Someone get this man a bus ticket to the MLB roster.

Around the League

[ESPN] Power Rankings: As Yankees, Cubs rise, we crown a new No. 1 - Maybe the D’backs are who we thought they were. Not quite better or worse than .500. Occasionally frustrating but entertaining more often than not. Down to #13 at ESPN. Checking in at #11 on MLB.com. Somehow Arizona managed to improve its standing at CBS Sports albeit only to #12. Their best ranking is #10 at The Athletic.

[MLB Trade Rumors] Yoenis Cespedes Fractures Ankle In Accident At His Ranch - Yoenis Cespedes, the New York Mets version of A.J. Pollock.
