Diamondbacks Minor League Recap 5/10/19

The Diamondbacks Minor League affiliates combined to go 2-1. Jackson’s game was postponed due to rain.

Here are the stars from last night’s games:

★★★ Kane County 2B Blaze Alexander 2 for 4, HR (2), 3 RBI
★★ Kane County LF Eduardo Diaz 2 for 2, 2B, 2 BB, 2 SB, 2 R
★ Visalia RHP Josh Green 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R (2 ER), 0 BB, 2 K, W (4-1)

(AAA) Reno Aces 5, Tacoma Rainiers 8: Reno would score three times in the top of the first to give Taylor Widener the best cushion possible to make this start. Widener allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts over 5 innings and left with a 5-4 lead thanks to a Domingo Leyba 2-run single. That lead would not last very long as Ben Taylor gave it right back with interest as he allowed 4 runs in 23 of an inning in the 6th before getting lifted for Jimmie Sherfy. Sherfy pitched 1 13 scoreless and Kevin Ginkel had a scoreless AAA debut. Reno got the tying run to the plate in the 8th, but the final 5 hitters all struck out.

(A+) Visalia Rawhide 7, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 2: Josh Green entered the game with a 4-0 lead and never looked back as he allowed just 2 runs in 6 innings. Green needed just 73 pitches and induced 10 ground outs while also maintaining a K/BB of 2/0 in the game. No Rawhide hitter had an exceptionally great day at the plate, but most of the lineup put in a solid effort. The team only put together 7 hits, but 5 of them came with RISP as Visalia took advantage of 6 walks and 2 errors.

(A) Kane County Cougars 6, Lansing Lugnuts 2: Matt Tabor’s 2nd start was almost as good as his first as he struck out 4 in 3 23 of scoreless baseball before getting lifted 60 pitches into the game. Kenny Hernandez picked up right where Tabor left off with 3 13 scoreless with 3 strikeouts. Blaze Alexander got the offense started with a 2-run homer in the 2nd and an RBI single in the 3rd. Kane County would add 2 more in the 4th and another run in the 9th thanks to Eduardo Diaz’s hitting as he reached base 4 times in total and scored runs in both frames. Wesley Rodriguez had a solid 8th inning, but struggled in the 9th as he only got 1 of 5 hitters out in the inning before getting lifted for Blake Workman. Workman got out of the bases loaded jam with a pair of flyouts to RF for the save.
