Snake Bytes, 5/1: Still Looking Good While Making History

The Diamondbacks’ John Ryan Murphy and his big swing was on the wrong side of history on Tuesday night as he became C.C. Sabathia’s 3.000th strikeout victim. All the celebrations aside for Sabathia, Murphy and the boys from Arizona were still the winners behind a very strong outing from another potential HoF pitcher, Zack Greinke.

It was a historic night in Phoenix. C.C. Sabathia faced off against Zack Greinke, creating the highest strikeout total between opposing pitchers since 2008. C.C. Sabathia added to his Hall of Fame resume by making John Ryan Murphy his 3,000th strikeout victim. Despite that, Zack Greinke had the stronger night, going 7 23 with seven strikeouts and allowing only one run. Arizona’s offense did just enough to give him a lead and Greg Holland tallied his sixth save of the season.

Greinke Rains on Sabathia’s Night

THe night’s coverage was all about how C.C. Sabathia finally reached the 3,000 strikeout club. However, Arizona’s ace, had the stronger night as he went 7 23 innings and struck out seven while only allowing one earned run.

Tossing out the scouting report, Greinke and Murphy decided to go fastball/slider and then adjust from there. It seems to have worked.
