As no big surprise, the Diamondbacks are expected to place corner infielder Jake Lamb on the 10-day injured list. Lamb had injured his left quad when running out an RBI double. Utility infielder Ildemaro Vargas is expected to be recalled from Reno to take Lamb’s spot on the 25-man roster. Vargas did not play in last night’s game for Reno, as expected, and despite being optioned to AAA to make room for Jon Duplantier on April 1st he is eligible to be recalled due to injury.

The injury to Lamb is just another one in the long list of injuries that have plagued him throughout his MLB career. After trying to play through an injured shoulder, Lamb decided to get corrective surgery to repair a torn labrum and missed the final two months of the 2018 season. After getting off to a slow start at the plate in 2019, this injury certainly doesn’t help the team’s fortunes. Christian Walker will likely be the team’s primary option at 1B with Avila seeing a few games there while Lamb is on the shelf. Walker has gotten off to a blistering start at the plate with 3 HR in 6 games while barreling up pretty every hittable strike so far this season.
