The Padres got to Merrill Kelly early, taking a 4-0 lead through three. He ended up going five frames, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk with five Ks. The D-backs clawed their way back into the game, with a four-run sixth, courtesy of RBI from Nick Ahmed, Carson Kelly, Ildemaro Vargas and Adam Jones. But Matt Andriese couldn’t keep the game tied, allowing a home-run in his second inning of work. The D-backs threatened in the ninth, Ketel Marte doubling to lead things off, but the next three batters struck out, and Arizona finished the day going just 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position. Jones and Ahmed had two hits apiece, and David Peralta reached base four times on a hit, two walks and HBO.
It was the third consecutive game lost by one run, and the fourth defeat in a row overall. RyanMac7 will be along with the full recap shortly.
