No great surprise that Zack Greinke will be the Opening Day starter for the D-backs in Los Angeles next week. I would presume he’d be followed by Robbie Ray, but the rotation after that is still uncertain. Zack Godley, Luke Weaver and Merrill Kelly would be the #3-5 in terms of major-league experience, but I wonder if Weaver might edge Godley out for the third spot? Not that it really matters much in terms of anything, considering the rotation will start to get messed up as soon as the first off-day shows up. Oddly, Weaver was listed in the notes from the D-backs as being the starter today, but he was now instead apparently throwing this morning in a B-game back at Salt River.
Also scheduled to pitch this afternoon in Glendale are Archie Bradley, Yoan Lopez and Robbie Scott. How much of that was dependent on Weaver’s presence, I don’t know, but I imagine not much will change. A fairly light line-up for the D-backs, with no Eduardo Escobar, Jake Lamb, Steven Souza or David Peralta. We’ll see how that works out.
